Well I've only heard this but supposedly the PMA wheel bearings we use and pay more for come off the same assembly line.  The bearings that pass the tighter tolerance requirement go in the PMA box.

Too many years ago to count I had a used Porsche 914. I was doing a tune-up and needed a new distributor cap. I went to the Porsche dealer, showed the parts guy the cap and when he told me how much a new one would be I almost died. Then he said, "Kid, go over to the VW dealership and get your cap. It will be a fraction of the price and in a Bosch box, but it will work fine." He was right. I was told later that the Porsche parts went through more rigorous testing, etc., and it makes sense. The generic part was still on the car when I sold it a few years later.
