Hey guys,

I'm in the process of a panel upgrade, and doing the fun disassembly process. What are the mass of yellow black wires going to, this is a stock panel from SN 86 M20k 25-1028? They were attached into radio harnesses and are going to pilot side wall up under the windshield (out of sight).

I suspect/hope this is going to a common ground board.  Then I can use it for wiring grounds in my approach fast stack.

Cheers

Joe

That is an unfortunate mess. Do they go through the firewall?  If they do they might be to an old engine monitor. As those are normally black and yellow from some manufacturers.

those wires are probably running to the avionics rack in the back. Open the side panel (the one to access the battery)

If they are not ending there then they must go to the wings and I my guess would be for strobe lights / sync wires

I can count 7 yellow, if there is 8 I vote engine monitor (4 cht, 4 egt).

I'm with Rich on this one, the wires do not look to be the flat(ish) thermocouple wires and are paired with the black wires.  This is typical ground (black) and lighting buss (yellow) configuration in our panels.

If they are OEM wires then they have a coded label. The code identifies function and numbers make it unique. You can map the code to the Mooney schematic to see exactly what it is and where it goes- if OEM.

to further the Mooney wire coding info which is printed directly on the wire insulation every few inches.

My copilot Mic-Key  is MK14B22

the MK is the identifier for Mic-Key

14 is an arbitrary number for this wire

B is the code for which side of a plug it is connected (i.e. A side or B side)

22 is the wire size.

Great info.  Thanks guys.  I will figure out the code.  They are from the avionics connectors, so I'm almost certain lighting and ground.

Getting your hands on a maintenance manual would have the details if these wires are original to the airframe.  Some MMs are posted in the files area of MS...

good luck.

Best regards,
