I am working on an 1978 M20J.  The avionics master relay is defective.  I am told there are no replacements for the relay I have installed.  The part number removed is 89CQX-2.  I can't find this part number anywhere.  A mooney shop gave me  the part  number of W89CQX-2.  Does anyone know where to get this  part  new or what to replace it with?

Thanks,

Steven

Often they are so well sealed, taking them apart to clean may be impossible...

The relay in Brad's thread above is really interesting. Includes great photos. :)

Best regards,

Does this mean that you know (or think) this relay, which is not the same, will still fit the application in place of the 89CQX-2?

That will get you the part number you mentioned, a W89CQX-2, if that's what you're looking for. I don't have the manuals for your airplane so I don't know if that's what you need.

Try to look up the specification for your old relay.  If the relay Byron has linked to meets or exceeds the part then you'll be fine. There's some language about standard electrical connectors not needing PMA or TSO somewhere but I can't quote the reg right now.   Any reasonable A&P would probably replace the thing with the superseded part number without batting an eye.
