carusoam Posted June 1, 2017 Report Posted June 1, 2017 Chances are nobody is going to like the blast of running the engine anywhere close to their favorite bird. even when it looks like an old piece of junk... It is amazing how much crap becomes airborne with a few hundred rpm. we have a few tiedowns that can be approached in a drive through manner. It does make for a nice set-up. +1 for the reversing thrust. I have seen that on a few turbine conversions as well. Some good painted lines and a good 360° camera on the tail tiedown is starting to look ultra useful... Best regards, -a- Quote

Let me try and draw a diagram. The planes are split nose to nose. You 'pull' in forward instead of pushing it in backwards like in a hangar or at tiedowns. Obviously, I would have to push it out to leave, as they don't have reverse. The black rectangles are the posts that hold the the 'shades' up. So, would you always push it in by hand, or would you taxi it in under power? (and sorry, I'm NOT AN ARTIST, lol) Excellent MSPaint. 1 Quote
steingar Posted June 1, 2017 Report Posted June 1, 2017 Congrats ot the OP on his M20e. Wanted one myself but couldn't find one that didn't break the bank (or wasn't broken itself). I would never taxi under power near other aircraft. I even try to avoid it at Oshkosh even though I have to get the aircraft out of the mud. Quote
Llyn Posted June 1, 2017 Report Posted June 1, 2017 Did you have a pre by done? Are you happy with the results, service? Quote

When he does that it blows crap all over our airplane and into our hangar. I don't know your hangar situation and it might be very different, but I wouldn't drive in or out under power without establishing first that doing so is well within the norms of your hangar environment. Jim It's a common practice. We have a local maintenance shop who run up customer airplanes with the nose in the hangar under a massive door. We keep expecting to hear the large boom. Clarence Quote
Badmoonraising Posted June 2, 2017 Report Posted June 2, 2017 Welcome Matt. Gosh, your ownership mirrors mine in that I am new to owning a 64 M20E and have also transitioned from a C150. What a big step up! Being in Western Canada the weather has been a complete gong show over the last year. I finally got to fly my bird from Kelowna to Prince George last Sunday. Flight time 1:57 wheels up and down. A far cry from the 3.5 hours in a C150 (nonetheless I loved the very simple airplane). The gentlemen I bought FPXG from did some panel upgrades. I must remember to send you a photo. 1 Quote

West shades, row closest to the taxi way and closest to the parking lot. Right in the middle. Actually, right next to another Mooney (I missed the tail number, but I think it ended in LV). I'm not technically signed up yet, since I don't have a bill of sale or registration, but I have permission to park there when I come into town with the plane on Saturday. I'll just have to stop by Monday and watch the video and get my access card. I'll be roughly at the red dot. Dumb question, probably, but do people typically push their plane into the spot or do you run it in under power, since the plane faces 'forward'? I've only ever parked in open tiedowns before. Also, probably dumb, but what is the proper terminology when you tell the tower or ground where you're parking? Do you call it west shades? The structures are referred to as covered tie downs at KDVT and Falcon Field. As you drive up you should see the reporting information you need on the end of the covered tie down. Unlike Falcon Field, Deer Valley does not have reporting positions strategically placed at various spots around the airport but does have reporting points located just prior to the taxiway. My area is near the Phoenix Police and is R6. I usually try to give them a little extra quick information if they have a moment. My covered tie down area is really quiet so I do taxi into my spot as far as practicable. I pull it into its final resting spot in the coral by hand. I have seen many pilots do the same. 1 Quote

Thanks I'm in Tucson but CHD isn't a far trip if you need an instructor with a fair amount of Money experience for something. Quote
