bavareze Posted March 20, 2017 Report Posted March 20, 2017 1. Hi. I am used to seeing a typical loading formula that gives a weight and a CG. based on that you would go to a graph and see whether you are inside the envelope and if it is normal or utility category. I this vintage AFM it only gives 5 loading schedules (1 pilot, pilot + copilot etc) and assumes each one is no heavier than 170lbs. So if I want to load it with two guys weighing each 200lbs, I have no diagram to see if my CG would ft. Am I missing something or how should I do this calculation for this '63 plane? Also, I'm missing performance data such as time/fuel to altitude etc, fuel burn rate. The date of the AFM is october 61, which is what the FAA certification calls for. 2. I went ahead and purchased a 66 POH that has more info but still no loading diagram. Would the performance data from a 66 match those of the 63? Thanks
carusoam Posted March 20, 2017 Report Posted March 20, 2017 (edited) You are missing something. The C evolved during the time POHs evolved... Get a copy of the latest version. Somebody posted one on this site in the download section. buy a hard copy from your MSC. You probably need the owner's manual for your year for legal purposes, and the best POH for useable data. The OM is about 30 pages, about 1/3 of it is marketing fluff... The POH is about 100 pages. The POH of a Modern Mooney of similar complexity is about 300 pages. Start collecting documents for your plane. OM, POH, pilots manuals for all the avionics, parts manual, and maintenance manual. Best regards, -a- Edited March 20, 2017 by carusoam

Thanks I've attached photos of the only 2 pages from my AFM (also dated 1961) about weight and balance. Basically, you had to do your own calculations and then plot them on the graph. Weight X Arm = Moment (The arm is the same as the CG location). So once you add up all your weights and add up all your moments: moment/weight=CG Now you can plot your weight and CG on the graph to see if you are within limits. -------------------------------------- As to the performance data, yes the 66 will be the same, but you should make sure you have the POH for your model year if questioned by the FAA (doubtful). --------------------------------------- Life was simpler in the 1960's. Embrace the simple life! 1
carusoam Posted March 21, 2017 Report Posted March 21, 2017 You know somebody used a typewriter to put those numbers in specific to your plane... manual typewriter, or just push print... I am celebrating the more complex life. Life was much simpler back then... unfortunately it was simple. Best regards, -a-
Hank Posted March 21, 2017 Report Posted March 21, 2017 You appear to have more information than is included in my 1970 books. My Owners Manual is in the Downloads section, with scant reference to loading on pages 4-5 & 4-6. There is very detailed information in the TCDS; for our C models, it's on Page 10. Happy calculating!
