Does anyone have any idea what this switch is?  We just bought this 67 M20F and it's the only thing we can't figure out.  It's the switch labeled "keep alive".  Let the jokes roll in!!!  It's positioned just to the right of the ELT remote switch.  The other switch to its right if for the rear intercom phone jacks.  This F Model has a 201 panel, yokes, and electric gear and flaps.  Any input is appreciated!

Hi acronut.

For me, anything at this point would be a guess.  If you have no specific information/documentation on this switch, either from the aircraft records or the previous owner, I would suggest having the avionics shop/or your mechanic investigate how and what this switch is interfaced to.

Please let us know as curious minds do want to know.  It might be fun to guess though..................Foot in mouth

It could be  back up power to your nav/com.   Turn your master switch off.  Then turn your radio's on and flip the switch to keep alive and see if anything lights up.  If you have a inflight emergency where you have to turn the master off you can still utitlize your com radio.  Just a guess.

Do you have a clock on your aircraft?  "Keep Alive" is often associated with the low current required to keep a clock working.  But it could be other things as well.  Just a thought...

It will be fun to hear what you find out.

George I think we have a winner!  I checked the radios yesterday with no luck.  I can't believe I didn't see my clock still lit up with the switch on!  Obviously from this pic I took the other week that has to be it.  You guys are awesome thanks for the help!

Apparently the previous owner had a sense of humor.  "keep alive" their passengers must have loved that button.

Data that is "kept alive" in my plane are: fuel used, clock, and radio frequencies.

"Keep Alive" sounds like a great conversation starter for passengers.  I'd like to have a dummy one mounted next to it like in the Far Side cartoon that is placarded "Wings Stay On / Wings Fall Off".

I think AOPA has a self stick button that is clearly placarded "panic button".

Kendal could put one next to the keep alive button and keep his passengers busy for the entire flight.

Kendal,  The pitts could probably use a set of Keep alive and panic buttons too....
