I recently replaced my vacuum pump which came with a gasket.  There's a spacer between the pump and the case.  I when I removed the spacer I noticed there was no gasket between the spacer and the case.  Is this correct.  I've never leaked oil in this area.  I have an experimental that has an O-320 and it does have a gasket between the spacer and case and it has oil residue.  Can anyone tell me if a gasket belongs between the case and vacuum pump spacer.

While you have it off, you may want to replace the drive shaft seal, they are prone to leakage as well.
