I'm having two issues with lights right now. The first is the lights on my glareshield are out. After searching previous posts here I checked the 5 amp microfuse and it's good. I also checked the connection under the glareshield and it's good as well. I'm told it's possibly the capacitor. The second problem is the backlight to the trim/flap position indicator is out. Once again, after researching this topic here, I found where the bulb is. I pulled it and it tested good so now I plan to bring it to my avionics shop. He thinks the glareshield will be easy to figure out but not sure on the indicator light. Does anyone have any ideas or info I can give my avionics guy that would help save some time. I can't imagine the indicator light is tied to the glareshield lights; I would think it would be tied to the panel lights, which work fine. Thanks in advance for the help. -Kevin

I once thought I had an issue with map lights.  Ultimately we determined there was some dependency on exterior lighting.  Don't recall exactly, but unless position lights or recognition lights were on, the map lights wouldn't work.  I don't recall if my glare shield and trim/flap lights operate independently of this dependency but figured I'd throw it out for consideration.

I'm just jealous you have a flap backlight. we don't.

I didn't know that until researching this. Not a huge deal; most of us can judge the takeoff position with about a 4 sec count but it sure is nice to have.

Light dependency...

When you have the nav lights on, other lights may be automatically dimmed...

Many people use nav lights all the time.  The gear down light gets dimmed and becomes hard to see during the daylight hours.

there could be a few other lights that get dimmed the same way...

Best regards,

I had exactly the same problem.  The glare shield lights and the flap indicator light are on the same dimmer circuit.  Whenever I turned the dimmer switch to 'on' the expensive little fuse blew.  I soldered two 22 gauge wires to the terminals of a 12 volt automobile light and plugged them into the fuse socket.  When the light illuminates, there is a short circuit.  I finally found the problem, a t it was in the cannon connector with the wires from the dimmer switch.
