klystron Posted August 20, 2016 Author Report Posted August 20, 2016 I've taken ownership of N1972W as of yesterday. Currently I have her parked at Elliot Aviation at KFCM because that's where the instructor is. I went ahead and made a new thread in the Vintage Mooney forum with pictures. Thanks again for all your help guys! 4 Quote

My absolute top right now is $60k, but that number goes up by about $2k-$3k every month. My goal ideally is to get an aircraft that I can use for 10+ years. So if I get what you're saying I should look for an airplane that has a good exterior and maybe crappy avionics? I know I probably can't afford both at the moment and I would rather have a solid airframe that I can upgrade vs one I have to patch in $1000 bills. So in a year, you could hypothetically buy a $90k plane? On the outside looking in, it appears like a little patience in the short run will put you in the position to have a GREAT buy down the road. carusoam Posted August 21, 2016 Report Posted August 21, 2016 Too late... He (klystron) bought the plane, got trained, and flew it home already... Best regards, -a- 2 Quote

Probably pilot error. Quote

Best regards, -a- I'm all for being cautious buying airplanes... but at the same time, when it's time to jump, you can't hesitate. Klystron did just that and I did the same thing. I sold my C using only Mooneyspace, and bought a 252 off of Controller, all in the span of 10 days. Do your research in advance and then GO when the light turns green. 3 Quote
carusoam Posted August 24, 2016 Report Posted August 24, 2016 The first time you try to buy a plane... Every step takes a long time... When you know exactly what you are looking for, and know all the steps, and are ready to go... Plus you have the experience of a nice plane getting away.... The next time you find Mrs. Wright... you can go see the plane, write a purchase agreement, arrange PPI, finance, insurance, and set up transition training and execute everything in under a few weeks. I love buying machinery, with OPM... only PP ideas, I don't have much experience buying planes... Best regards, -a- 1 Quote
