Parker_Woodruff Posted July 26, 2016 Report Posted July 26, 2016 The problem isn't directly Signature and Landmark, the problem is the municipalities that have ridiculous "minimum standards" that half the time aren't even applicable to a prospective operator to operate and be competitive on a field...that and the protectionist policies that make it much smarter to grow by acquisition as opposed to starting a competing operation. Yes and no. We have an airport (Pahokee) that people flew to from miles around to fill up at due to having the lowest gas prices for 100 miles. Then one day I flew in and saw the Signature sign and discovered that the cheapest gas in the area was now among the most expensive, literally overnight. On a typical weekend there would be lines to pull up to the pump. When I go out practicing approaches with my partner we use this airport due to it having precision approaches and little activity. Each time we land there to switch seats the place is absolutely dead, and it all started when Signature showed up on the scene. 2 Quote
ArtVandelay Posted July 26, 2016 Report Posted July 26, 2016 I've never seen anyone land at Pahokee, according to airnav, $3.10 is the cheapest in the country, we have several in central Florida that are below $3.50. Quote
MyNameIsNobody Posted July 27, 2016 Report Posted July 27, 2016 (edited) $3.99 for self serve in Iowa/Wisconsin at airports I frequent. I refrain from buying at Class C home drome because Signature (full serve) is at a premium that I choose NOT to pay. That premium is $5.99 minus based on field reduction of .75. $5.24 for a gallon of 100 low lead? No thank you. We are talking $37.50 for a 30.0 gallon fill-up. THAT is a Huge difference. They are $5.99 to transient traffic. What they are saying is that they don't want GA they went J.E.T.-A....but they will "help you out" if they have to. I understand that they are having personnel come to my hanger and push out the plane/fuel it/return to hanger/return to Signature...BUT they aren't paying their staff $30 bucks an hour...The fueling likely with transit takes 30 minutes TOPS. It is a ripoff that I choose to not support. Edited July 27, 2016 by MyNameIsNobody Quote
peevee Posted July 28, 2016 Author Report Posted July 28, 2016 I paid 5.30 a gallon yesterday for 29 gallons at kcez. When you need it you need it. Quote
211º Posted July 28, 2016 Report Posted July 28, 2016 A little bit ago when I was comparing my 150 to the possible purchase of a Mooney M20E and an RV-9A, I made a spreadsheet that compared the cost of purchasing fuel at the local, on-field FBO (for a premium) vs. flying 25 or 50 miles to about $2 less per gallon. If anyone wants to see it, it is here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/6811488/2015.06.01 Aviation CostToFillUp Ref.xlsx Fill in the green cells with your data. Kind of interesting to see the breakeven point (amount of gallons) or to justify a flight "at no additional cost". 1 Quote
