I was rereading this thread and came upon this bit of wisdom. I almost fell over that I laughed so hard. This is the best, Clarence!!!!

Walt,

Glad you enjoyed it.  I always aim to please.

Here is another possible option that has not been mentioned.  The dent you have is very close if not in the exact location as the factory wing mounted landing light in the newer models.  Instead of repairing the plane it may be possible to just modify and upgrade to a wing mounted light using the factory parts and reinforcements that support the cutout.  That way no damage history, just a log entry and a 337 stating that the landing light was added.  There are a few older planes that have this modification.  I think I have a copy of the paperwork from one of them.  Perhaps you can find a picture online and determine if the light would cover the damage area.

Are these available for a 75F?

The wing on all the metal Mooneys are structurally the same.  The difference is wing tips and tank configurations.  You can buy the parts for the current production landing lings and put them in the wings.  I would do both sides.  I did this when I rebuilt my airplane.  I then changed out the factory bulbs and put in HID lights on both sides for taxi and landing.  If I turn on both taxi and landing lights both sides for a night landing the view is incredible, almost like a landing at dusk.

Almost.  In 1967 the droopy leading edge of the outboard wing or curved wing was changed on F models to help with slow flight characteristics.  In 1968 the wing was returned to it's original shape.  There was no demonstrated increase of effectiveness.  That's a reason 1967 Mooney F Models cannot get the 201/231 wing tips - the shape does not match.

What you did with your landing lights in the wing sounds awesome.
