JoeSpeed Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 Check Out http://www.whelen.com/_AVIATION/a-docs.php I am not affilated with Whelen in any way, But I do like this product Quote
HopePilot Posted October 1, 2010 Report Posted October 1, 2010 But is it better than the new Teledyne Alphabeam that Aircraft Spuce is selling? I'd really like a solution that can then be set up to flash for anti-collision avoidance. Quote
Jeff_S Posted October 1, 2010 Report Posted October 1, 2010 I notice in the STC, and read somewhere else that I now can't recall, that the limitation to PAR36 installations means those of us with nose-cone landing lights can't use this. I don't know if this is correct or not, because I don't even know what "PAR36" means. Can someone enlighten me (pun very much intended!)? Quote
JoeSpeed Posted October 1, 2010 Author Report Posted October 1, 2010 PAR 36 refers to the size and type of light bulb. PAR is a Parabolic Aluminized Reflector 36 Diameter= 36 increments of 1/8 inch of 4.5" Quote

HopePilot Posted October 3, 2010 Report Posted October 3, 2010 My current plan is to buy a Sunspot 36 and hook it up to wig/wag, when my current light dies. Quote
Vref Posted October 4, 2010 Report Posted October 4, 2010 Quote: Magnum In the nose is a PAR46 bulb. They have one that sems to fit (90352 Series), but no STC. Quote
Magnum Posted October 4, 2010 Report Posted October 4, 2010 That sounds good. Here is a discussion with a video comparison between the Sunspot and GE4553: http://www.vansairforce.com/community/showthread.php?t=59923 Quote

HopePilot Posted January 3, 2011 Report Posted January 3, 2011 Is the light in a Mooney 201 PAR36 or PAR 46? I think I've confused myself. Quote

HopePilot Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 Thanks! I better cancel the Sunspot 36 LED we ordered. It ships soon. Quote
Vref Posted January 5, 2011 Report Posted January 5, 2011 All this LED certification and STC approval is going awfully slowly.I need to find urgent a solution for my old belly rotating beacon which is broken. There are the following options I think, trying to avoid the old pee potty drooping from the tail: - replace the tail position light by a whelen postion/strobe light (requires installation of an additional power supply don't know how this works out for the wiring...I could re-use the rotating beacon wires and add the pow supply for the tail strobe..(Is this allowed..) - go for a Aveo Red Baron anti collision light ...set back its not STCed for the mooney..They claim an international STC (honestly I have no clue what this means...I only know FAA and EASA..;-).. I think its great except it not certified for Mooneys yet even don't know if its in production already... - go for a bulcky Whelen belly LED solution.. Advise welcomed..;-)) Quote

N6936V Posted January 24, 2011 Report Posted January 24, 2011 I've been bugging Bryan at Whelen for months. He told me that they will be out before Jan11. Spruce called Whelen last week and now confirms; but not yet in stock. Ask Bryan: bbochinski@whelen.com Quote
Jeev Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 Here is the link for the PAR 46 : http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/elpages/whelen461l.php No mention of an STC?? Anyone order this yet? Only thing stopping me is an STC... Quote
N6936V Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 Whelen told me in October that the lamps are ready, but they are waiting on the STC paperwork to be filed. So Whelen has the STC for sure. I'll buy mine as soon as I return from Asia in March. Quote

HopePilot Posted February 3, 2011 Report Posted February 3, 2011 It says 14v, but will this work for a 12v 201? Quote

Vref Posted February 3, 2011 Report Posted February 3, 2011 Quote: Jeff_S Yes. The battery is a 12v battery but the electrical system operates on 14v. Newer J's and long-bodies use a 28v system with one (or two) 24v batteries. Quote
HopePilot Posted February 3, 2011 Report Posted February 3, 2011 Yes, I totally remember this now, but in my sick-induced fog I had forgotten. I also just told my aide to, "have a great weekend," and it was Wednesday, so go figure. Quote
AlexR Posted February 4, 2011 Report Posted February 4, 2011 36V, Did you get your light yet from Aircraft Spruce? They told me it will ship in 5-10 days.... Quote
N6936V Posted February 4, 2011 Report Posted February 4, 2011 I'll order it next month when I get back from Asia. Right now I'm having a rough time playing golf in 90° in Thailand. Greeting to all y'all; keep nice and warm! Nicholas, 36V Quote
