Recently swung the compass on my '76 F model and the clear polycarbonate piece that holds the correction card to the center post is crazed and hard to see through. To my best measuring guess it's a piece of 7/8" OD X 3/4" ID X 1/16" thick tubing that has been cut to make the the C-shape. Any idea where a guy can find tubing like this or have a better suggestion on where to mount the correction card? I've searched eBay and Amazon.com and major online plastic companies but haven't had much luck yet. Figured I'd turn to the experts. ;) The compass face plate is far too small to put it there and I'd rather not put it on the glareshield.

Kyle,

If it came from airpath, the compass manufacturer, you might be able to find it at their website.

http://www.airpathcompass.com

They have good support people.  I was able to buy new correction card pieces of a different shape and size than you have.

It was priced normally, not in AMUs

best regards,

I had the same problem.  laminated my correction card and strapped it to the center post with 2 thin tie wraps. Not elegant, but functional.

MooneyMite,

that's the one!

airpath has a piece of plastic that fits in the front to make it look nice.  The two existing screws are used to mount it...

best regards,

That piece on my 1975F went to the Happy Carbonate Hunting Grounds a few years ago. My mechanic came up with what looks like a Brother label maker solution. I will see if I have a picture of it on my PC. He stuck it on the frame above the compass.

BTW - thanks for posting the photo of your panel. I have been debating about whether or not to recess my Aspens. I hadn't seen one in our generation of F models. Helps seeing it firsthand. Thanks!

Here is mine raised:

The brother label printer will make a nice one with the 1" tape. If you use their computer software it will let you make a table.

Mine looks like a table, so that must be the way he made it. I can't find any photos of it, but it is certainly a table.

I got a new PT-2700 printer off ebay a couple of years ago for $30. Most labels can be made with the built in keyboard, but for a table you need their software. It can be downloaded free from their website.  Works very well and I've never had a label come off even after staying the the hot hanger a few years.

It just needs to be where the pilot can see it.

Upgrade to a PAI-700, laminate the card and just stick it on the pilot side of the compass.

Win-win.

The metal card holder can be attached to the face of the compass with 2 small screws.

The above solutions are more elegant, but this just happened in our C and I simply visited the Loews PMN section, cut a 3" piece of clear tubing that was the appropriate length and added a longitudinal cut.  Think it came to $0.23 plus tax.
