jasonwojo Posted August 19, 2010 Report Posted August 19, 2010 Hello Moniacs, The last Jerry Manthey Maintenance Course will be held October 2-3 in Wichita, Kansas (the original home of Mooney Aircraft Company). Mooney models M20B-J will be studied Oct 2nd and models M20K-TN on Oct 3rd. The course will be held at Yingling Aviation at the Mid-Continent Airport (ICT). Actual aircraft will be reviewed in one of their nice hangers. There is a chance we will even be in the same hanger where the Cessna Skycatchers are being assembled. Doughnuts and coffee for breakfast and box lunches will be provided. A maintenance manual will also be provided for you to keep. Cost is only $199.00 per person. I need a minimum of 20 individuals to sign up. I spoke to Jerry, again, today and we agreed to see how many people are paid in full by Sept 6th to make a go/no-go decision so register imediately (this will allow him plenty of time to buy plane tickets). Let everyone know and pay for your mechanics to attend. You can register/pay the Mooney Aircraft Pilots Association (MAPA) at (210) 525-8008. This will be Jerry's last class, due to retirement, so make sure to not miss out! The MAPA Convention is the following weekend in Colorado Springs so this is a convienant location for our out-of-town visitors to attend both. Feel free to contact me at jasonwojo@msn.com or (316) 708-0713 to answer any of your questions. Remember to not procrastinate with your registration/payment!!! Jason
flight2000 Posted August 19, 2010 Report Posted August 19, 2010 Well crap, I wish I could be there, but I'm out of the country until December. This would have been an easy flight down there from Leavenworth. Hope all goes well and you get enough participants to make it a go. Brian

flight2000 Posted August 19, 2010 Report Posted August 19, 2010 That works for me. I get home on the 21st of December and return on the 15th of January (mid-tour leave). I believe aerobat95 will be back by then as well and since he's actively looking for a Mooney might want to catch a ride. He's a KC135 driver based out there in Wichita. Thanks, Brian
KSMooniac Posted August 19, 2010 Report Posted August 19, 2010 I met Aerobat95 and showed him my J plus my friend's E the day before he deployed. We can definitely get him a ride to Paola!

jasonwojo Posted August 19, 2010 Author Report Posted August 19, 2010 It was confirmed, today, that Yingling Aviation will let us pull in a couple of planes into the hanger where they are assembling the Cessna Skycatcher. It is an exciting time for the light sport side of aviation! Also, there is plenty of parking for everyone who flys in and the price is free. I appreciate those individuals who have already contacted Lela at MAPA and registered. Call your Mooney friends/mechanics and get them to do the same! More to come...
jasonwojo Posted August 19, 2010 Author Report Posted August 19, 2010 Mooney drivers who are not from the area should consider making a weekend out of this clinic. I can put you in touch with local Mooney owners who can help out with transportation, rooms, and maybe a group dinner on Saturday. Wichita is a nice little town and we would be glad to point you in the right direction. There are lots of aviation related businesses in the area and there is a nice little aviation museum next to McConnell AFB. The famous Beaumont Hotel is a very short flight away if you are looking for a strip to land on and where you can taxi down Main Street to park in front of the restaurant and hotel (www.hotelbeaumontks.com). There are two airparks in the area if you are shopping for an airport to live on (they have available lots) and want to enjoy our low cost of living. Let me know where we can assist with your travel plans...
jasonwojo Posted August 24, 2010 Author Report Posted August 24, 2010 Continue to call Lela at MAPA to sign up for the class. Not everyone reads MooneySpace (they should, though), so please get in touch with everyone who would be interested. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions (jasonwojo@msn.com)...

The-sky-captain Posted August 26, 2010 Report Posted August 26, 2010 Quote: craigsteffen Hi, Fairly new (2007) low-time pilot here. I've gotten interested in Mooneys in the last year. Just yesterday I ran across this web site. My quick question--what's the significance of this being the last of Mr. Manthey's maintenance classes? Will there be more classes taught by other people? I'd love to go someplace to get a look at the insides of various Mooneys, but that's coming up quick. It would be far better for my schedule and finances to wait until next year. Is there any reason for me to work hard to go to this even specifically? Thanks for any information/advice.

jasonwojo Posted August 30, 2010 Author Report Posted August 30, 2010 Calling all Mooney guys and gals! In one week (Sept 6th) Jerry Manthey and I will determine if we have enough interest to keep the last Mooney Mainenance Class in Wichita, KS on Oct 2-3. I initially had 12 people interested and we must have 20 to make this work. Call Lela at MAPA (Mooney Aircraft Pilots Association) and register (210-525-8008). If we cancel the class, you will get your money back, so please do not procrastinate. I am paying for my mechanic to come to help with our numbers so please consider the same. We will have a great weekend and I look forward to talking Mooneys and seeing all of the planes! Thank you for your support!
jasonwojo Posted September 3, 2010 Author Report Posted September 3, 2010 On Tuesday, Jerry and I decide if we go forward with this class. We need twenty people to sign up with Lela at MAPA (Mooney Aircraft Pilots Association) to make this happen. This will be a great priviledge to be Jerry's last class before his retirement. Please call today and sign up. Let me know if you have any questions...blue skies!
KSMooniac Posted September 3, 2010 Report Posted September 3, 2010 Jason, I had been procrastinating but just left a message for Lela.

mooneygirl Posted September 7, 2010 Report Posted September 7, 2010 Jason, you are doing a wonderful job helping to promote Jerry's seminar. Way to go! He is a legend. It was so nice to spend time with him at Oshkosh at the MAPA tent. What a wealth of knowledge. Anyway, I just wanted to tell you congrats for doing something so nice. [and the education you will receive will be awesome]
g2clark Posted September 7, 2010 Report Posted September 7, 2010 Jason, i sent you a private reply that i meant to send to all; anyway. I just found out my Atlas schedule will allow me to attend Please let me know if i need to do anything special to get in. I will call MAPA this a.m.; Tuesday the 7th. We met at Muskogee last month and i have the "bottle rocket"(M20C) painted like your Saturn 5. regards, George Clark 405-474-0757 N7868V

jasonwojo Posted September 14, 2010 Author Report Posted September 14, 2010 Hello all. I regret to tell you that the Mooney Maintenance Clinic with Jerry Manthey in Wichita, KS on October 2nd and 3rd has been cancelled. Unfortunately there was just not enough interest to justify the course. I truly wish this was not the case. For those who have already registered, please give Lela at MAPA a call for a full refund. There is a course in Livermore, California on September 25th and 25th as an option. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Blue skies...
mooneygirl Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 You gave it your best shot Jason. I thought the Livermore workshop had been moved to Stockton, CA. I remember Jerry saying that at Oshkosh. I believe that he said his very first seminar ever was at Stockton and he was coming full circle. Perhaps you have more updated information. You really did a great job Jason. Kudos to you!
fantom Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 Good try, Jason. I had the same result years ago when I was trying to help Jerry hold a clinic down here. Didn't want to say anything earlier for fear of taking some wind out of your sails. A shame!
