Seth Posted March 15, 2015 Report Posted March 15, 2015 Wow. This is a PIREP for aluminum polish as during my current annual inspection, while sending the prop out for an overhaul, I took the spinner home to polish. Four years ago I used Mother's over about 10 hours with serious elbow grease and got a mirror like finish on my spinner. This was my former F Model. Yesterday using California Custom's Anti Oxidant and Purple Metal aluminum Polish, I spent less than an hour and got the same mirror like finish with NO elbow greese whatsoever. This was on my Missile. www.californiacustom.com http://www.californiacustom.com/purple_metal_polish.html Watch the video in the second link - it's on the Purple Metal Polish page. It works EXACTLY as advertised. To say I am impressed is an understatement. You rub on the green anti oxident and then without cleaning it off, rub on the purple polish in all sorts of directions. When the black grime that develops and you start getting shiny streaks showing through you are done. You then wipe off / buff off lightly in all directions with a terry cloth and by the fourth clean side of the folded up terry cloth, it's a mirror. I will never use Mother's or Flitz again. They are great, but this takes 1/20 the time with again no elbow grease. I'll fix the pics as soon as I can figure out how to do so with the iPhone or when I get the pics on a computer. I hope you can determine the before and after pics. The before we cloudy but somewhat of a reflection. The after is mirror like. Evidently the T-6 Texan II demo team uses this as well and endorses it. -Seth 1 Quote
Hank Posted March 15, 2015 Report Posted March 15, 2015 I'm amazed too. Much easier than Mothers, much shinier too. I'll do the chrome on the car soon, but if have to bring the bottle back from the hangar first. P.S.--I only have the purple. Rub it on, wipe it off, no elbow grease. Quote
bonal Posted March 15, 2015 Report Posted March 15, 2015 I bought this spinner from a fellow Mooney Spacer and it was very oxidized. Using both the green and purple by hand took about an hour. Quote
PTK Posted March 15, 2015 Report Posted March 15, 2015 Works great and it's easy! http://mooneyspace.com/topic/13477-i-love-this-stuff/?p=173843 Quote
Seth Posted March 15, 2015 Author Report Posted March 15, 2015 Sorry I missed your post. Best stuff out there I've come across. However I'm not sure of all the product available. -Seth Quote
Cruiser Posted March 15, 2015 Report Posted March 15, 2015 This sounds great. Almost too good to be true! Â Does anyone have long term use and performance on this product? Anything that is this easy must have a downside. Does it eat the surface away? Â You know RainX is easy to use too, wipe on and wipe off, leaves the windshield clear and repels water like magic, but I would never use it on my airplane windshield. Â Just askin' .......... Quote

HRM Posted March 17, 2015 Report Posted March 17, 2015 Does it eat the surface away? Â The website says that the oxidation remover does just that, removes oxidation and nothing else. Â If the oxidation on your spinner is greater than a few molecules thick you have bigger problems. Â The company is in Kalifornia, where the fruits and nuts rule--you can probably drink the stuff. Â If it were here in Tejas, I would not use it to polish sewer drain covers. Quote
aviatoreb Posted March 17, 2015 Report Posted March 17, 2015 Love the stuff! You can do it quickly on the airplane too. Quote
kris_adams Posted March 17, 2015 Report Posted March 17, 2015 Now I just need to get the paint of the spinner first. Seriously considering it. That looks amazing Quote

They do indicate it is an acid in the deoxidizer. Just wonder what it is and the concentration of it.  Aluminum Deoxidizer FAQ HOW DOES IT WORK? Aluminum Deoxidizer is a very special acid-based chemical that strictly eats oxidation. It does not remove metal. It works on all metal surfaces. It is so mild, that when applied there is no need to wipe or wash it off. It will never burn or etch the metal. When using it on aluminum, no matter how highly polished the surface is, it will turn the surface white. Depending on how fast or slow the surface starts to turn white, or to what degree of whiteness, depends on how much oxidation is on the surface. The faster it turns white, or the whiter the surface gets, the higher the level of oxidation. When using this product, don’t be afraid of it. In some cases, if the metal is extremely oxidized or if you are dealing with some sort of an acid stain, you may need to totally white-out the surface. By doing this you will find that most hard to clean problems are no longer a problem. Quote

Hank Posted March 19, 2015 Report Posted March 19, 2015 Got my bottle for Christmas. It was purchased on line from an auto supply place in Kansas or Nebraska. But doggone it, it really works! Quote

It does, but Tom got me thinking. A dilute acid solution might be fine for the metal on a pickup truck's diamond pattern running board. But on my hard to replace spinner, hmmm... I was using Wenol but it required more elbow grease but is designed to work with fine cutlery. I will try to find the MSDS. Quote

Can't wait to see my IA's face at annual because he always bitches about me bringing him a dirty plane. Â 1 Quote

Hank Posted March 20, 2015 Report Posted March 20, 2015 Looks good, Harley. How long did it take? I spent ~20 minutes with only the purple. Quote
