FloridaMan Posted February 13, 2015 Report Posted February 13, 2015 My 530 has been noisy when tuned to frequencies above around 127.0 the last couple of flights. It's as if the squelch isn't quite right. And, oddly enough, when I reach to touch the volume knob to check the squelch, it silences itself. I discovered that if I hold my hand within about 6 inches of the screen that the squelch kicks in. I'm going to try to remove and rerack the unit to see if it fixes the issue. Has anybody else experienced this?
Awqward Posted February 13, 2015 Report Posted February 13, 2015 Do you have anything plugged in to your cigarette power plug....like an iPad charger?
FloridaMan Posted February 13, 2015 Author Report Posted February 13, 2015 As a matter of fact... I didn't think about that. I tried turning off the other radios and my TIS; I didn't think about unplugging the cigarette lighter.
Marauder Posted February 13, 2015 Report Posted February 13, 2015 And don't forget about your cell phone as well. Sometimes I have found I can hear it through the headset as it tries to pick up an antenna on the ground.
Hedge Posted February 13, 2015 Report Posted February 13, 2015 As I get closer to the ground my 430 gives me feedback when I am transmitting. I think I am heard clearly, but it is not a good thing in my ear. I never thought about the cell phone. I also might try a different head set.

I get this if I'm transmitting on my secondary radio (Narco 12D) and monitoring the 530. For that reason, I only use the 12D to monitor a second frequency. I also can't hear myself when transmitting on the 12D, but the controllers hear me fine.

The modulation isolation circuitry on the Narco units is really bad. When I transmit on the Narco, I could see my GTN RX light come on even if I was several bands away from the transmitting frequency for the Narco.
FloridaMan Posted February 15, 2015 Author Report Posted February 15, 2015 Found it. I had one of those "Jackery" phone battery packs plugged into the cigarette lighter. It was on a long USB cable and under the seat. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 3
carusoam Posted February 15, 2015 Report Posted February 15, 2015 Nice follow-up, Antares! Best regards, -a-
