This week, much of  Texas has had low ceilings.  No need for sun glasses on the way to the airport with 1500 foot ceilings and a 1500 foot layer.  Wow that sun is bright when you break out on top!  And of course my sun glasses are in the car.  I know I can't be the only one.

I had the other problem, flying into the evening with my sunglasses on, and my regular glasses in the car. Fixed that by putting a cheap pair of glasses in the plane. For sun, I've got tinted visors and hats in the plane that I can sometimes reach.

Actually I had a polarized pair, in a bag, in the luggage compartment.  Generally I don't like polarized lenses, but I sent my wife scrambling to the back for them any way.   Flying into the afternoon  sun can be brutal  It only gets worse, till it gets dark!

My spare glasses live in a pocket on the front of the seat. Easy to reach down and change them.

I have a bunch in the plane that I got from boomersintheknow.com. All have the 1.25 magnification that I need. I have one set in clear so I can use my ASA view limiting device with them.

I wear my homemade foggles over my sunglasses. Bright outside is still bright, as they are just sandblasted safety glasses made to wear over eyeglasses. But I sandblasted them on the inside to minimize scratching and associated starbursts, and I sandblasted along the panel line of my plane with the seat in my flying position. Visitor safety glasses are $2-3 at industrial supply houses, double that at the Big Box stores.

If you don't want to go to the trouble to sandblast your glasses, scotch tape works very nice to simulate IMC. Lets lots of light in but makes "vision" zero. The only problem I have found is making the side shields to eliminate vision out the sides. Thin translucent plastic works pretty well.

Love the suggestion on home made foggles.   It's a good idea since I wear reading glasses and they don't seem to work well with regular foggles.

And for the sun glasses.  The issue is dark ugly skies when I take off and blue open skies into the sun when I break through the top.  --It reminds me of surfacing after a long scuba dive.  Dark to bright is very noticeable.

One of the reasons for my cb foggles is because I wear reading glasses. I bought a big pair in my magnification, put on the scotch tape and built the side view obstructors. I glued those onto the temple pieces with Plumbers Goo, so I can still fold them to go in my pocket or flight bag.
