That's correct. You aren't missing anything!

Whelen does not see the need to go to the expense to add the J to the STC. And I don't blame them.

I've got the 650e installed on my J, and the 500 (tail) as well. My MSC handled paperwork.

This is very encouraging... Does the "paperwork " involve a Field Approval and a 337? I presume the STC for the earlier models could form the basis for Acceptable Data? Also the 500 unit is a combo aft position light / strobe...on my aircraft the aft position lights are on the wing tips...does your setup mean that you no longer use the wingtip aft position lights?

As you can tell from my pix, I don't have that style of wing tips, my J is a 78, the tips were added later.

PTK and TJ, if the STC does not include the J, what was the authority used to install the Orion's? I would like to install as well but there don't seem to be many field approvals going through these days.

I don't know, MSC handled it, log entry says all work approved FAA, I'll check if I have extra paperwork.

They are FAA TSO-C96a Class II / TSO-C30c Type II & III approved.
