LevelWing Posted November 2, 2014 Report Posted November 2, 2014 I have a little rust around the rivets on the wings and I'd like to get it off, but I'm not sure what the best way to do this is. Any suggestions? Attached are pictures to show what I'm talking about. Also, while I'm asking, what is the best way to polish the plane/spinner (stainless spinner)? Thanks. 1 Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted November 2, 2014 Report Posted November 2, 2014 That doesn't look like rust. it looks like anti corrosion stuff seeping through the wings. Just use a mild solvent like mineral spirits or WD40 then soap and water. 2 Quote
Hank Posted November 2, 2014 Report Posted November 2, 2014 Here's one recent thread, there are others with pictures of the magic bottle: http://mooneyspace.com/topic/13477-i-love-this-stuff/?hl=polish The Search box up top is your friend. :-) (Sorry, no emoticons on my pricey apple iPad, just on my cheap droid phone.) The-sky-captain Posted November 2, 2014 Report Posted November 2, 2014 I used "Mothers" to polish my spinner with good results. Quote
Jeff_S Posted November 2, 2014 Report Posted November 2, 2014 As to the spinner polish, Mothers works, but the stuff I swear by is Flitz which you can get from any aviation supply house...Aircraft Spruce comes to mind. Flitz is awesome because it requires almost no elbow grease. Just apply it and rub it in a bit, then polish off with a clean cloth. You'll be amazed at how much oxidation comes off. Flitz is also good because you can use it on oxidized paint to restore it. Quote

My paint is pretty rough but it's worth a shot to make it look a little better, anyway. Quote
