Jim Peace Posted September 16, 2014 Report Posted September 16, 2014 Just picking up plane from paint shop in Corona for minor touch ups. During preflight it is taking 7 pumps to get flaps to half and about 12 for full. Any ideas? Mechanic looking at it now. AOG
N201MKTurbo Posted September 16, 2014 Report Posted September 16, 2014 Bleed the flaps. Or just actuate them a bunch of times.
Jim Peace Posted September 16, 2014 Author Report Posted September 16, 2014 No flight controls removed. System bleed. The mechanic is very busy working on it. No telling yet. Normally 2 pumps down and 4.5 for full
Jim Peace Posted September 16, 2014 Author Report Posted September 16, 2014 What he said! Just added fluid and bled system again. Now takes 5.5 pumps for down. We are getting closer. I wonder if the paint shop keeping the flaps down during 108 degree temps would make it vent fluid?
MARZ Posted September 16, 2014 Report Posted September 16, 2014 wow for a second there I thought your ballistic chute deployed

N601RX Posted September 16, 2014 Report Posted September 16, 2014 There is a tee fitting screwed into the slave cylinder for bleeding.
EDNR-Cruiser Posted September 16, 2014 Report Posted September 16, 2014 You are lucky! Sounds like you get off the hook with a bleeding of your hydraulic system. I am fighting with my flaps for almost a year now, using two manual pumps in exchange trying to get at least one fixed... During short final I need to pump 5 to 8 times within less than 120 seconds... - I can tell you, that doesn't make landing on our 2.000ft runway very enjoyable, especially not with the gusty wind and turbulances that we usually have and my birth defect of only having two hands and not three... No chance to find a new pump anywhere... - bought a used second flap pump with similar problems as my first pump - not keeping the pressure... - flaps retracting automatically, usually before take-off in take-off position and all the time in the traffic circuit...
Jim Peace Posted September 16, 2014 Author Report Posted September 16, 2014 Flap issue kind if fixed. Went to start up to beat highe storm over inland empire. Could not get the door latched. During some interior work that the shop did they put in too long of a scene into the door frame and prevented me from being able to lock the door. Took an hour for that one. In the mean time the storm came in. Debating on whether or not to just call it a day. Destination VNY. So close but yet so far
Guest Posted September 16, 2014 Report Posted September 16, 2014 That "rainbow umbrella" makes me think your mechanic might be ... Err ... Well ... not that there's anything wrong with that ... oh never mind ... A member in the "NGPA"? Clarence

It sounds like your engagement lever is not rigged correctly and is allowing the fluid to bleed back on its own, or you have multiple o-ring leaks. My suggestion is to order an overhaul kit from LASAR and have your mechanic start an e-mail conversation with them to repair it and rig it properly. They are very helpful, and it goes without saying, knowledgeable. My only other suggestion is to make sure, upon reinstallation, that all hydraulic components are filled with fluid before installation, or you will spend hours pumping until the pump is primed.
N601RX Posted September 17, 2014 Report Posted September 17, 2014 If there is air in the pump, you can usually feel it in the pump handle. When you lift the handle up it will not stay all the way up on its on. When rebuilding the pump it is difficult to get it to prime if it isn't filled with fluid before mounting. Otherwise it is airlocked and will not pump. When this happens fluid can be sucked into it by connecting a vac source to the outlet fitting on the pump and pulling fluid into it. 1
