triple8s Posted February 22, 2014 Report Posted February 22, 2014 Maybe a stupid question but.........if I have a GTX330ES transponder and were to buy a Clarity for my iPad mini won't they both send an ADSB out and show two targets on aircraft in range receiving ? Quote
Marauder Posted February 22, 2014 Report Posted February 22, 2014 Unless something has changed with the Clarity, it is an ADS-B in only device. With the 330 squitter version of transponder, it will send an "out" signal, and your Clarity would receive the "in" data. The nice thing about that arrangement is that you will see more traffic because it is the "out" signal that triggers the traffic data. If you bought a SkyGuard TWX and had a 330ES, you would have two "out" sources. Sent using Tapatalk Quote
triple8s Posted February 23, 2014 Author Report Posted February 23, 2014 I have been toying with this for awhile and still not sure which way I ought to go. I have a 430w -com1/nav1 a KX155 com2/nav2 an HSI and a #2 CDI w/gs a GTX330ES, I also have a 496 with XM and a DynonD1 plus an IPad with flyQ on it so I am trying to decide what I should put on the right side of he panel. I have a new air gizmo dock for the iPad mini but it's so far away. I could put the 496 and Dynon over there and use the iPad on a knee board. So many choices these days. Quote
RocketAviator Posted February 23, 2014 Report Posted February 23, 2014 Maybe a stupid question but.........if I have a GTX330ES transponder and were to buy a Clarity for my iPad mini won't they both send an ADSB out and show two targets on aircraft in range receiving ? Just to opposite. I have Garmin G500 with GTN 750 & 650 with ADS-B. I also have the IPad with Clarity SV using FlyQ software mounted on my yoke. You will see your craft as traffic (so far I have seen as much as 300 +/- different alt. suspect due to Mode C transponder at 29.92). Clarity SV does not send ADS-B Out, I understood that no portable ADS-B sends an out. ADS-B Weather not as good as XM but I can live with it most of the time. Especially wish the cloud cover was as good as XM. Marauder is CORRECT please be careful as ADS traffic is only transmitted when and it receives a valid ADS-B traffic trigger from an aircraft within its area of concern. See the FlyQ all about ADS-B video Steve did a good job on that one it is very informative. Fly Safe, Quote

carusoam Posted February 23, 2014 Report Posted February 23, 2014 http://mooneyspace.com/topic/9394-portable-ads-b-solutions-moment-of-truth/?hl=adsb The moment of truth thread started by Marauder covered some serious ground. Brett had purchased the skyguard. There has been some discussion of the outgoing signal strength and legality of it. I'm only a casual observer. I have the ADS-B in. Best regards, -a- Quote
