The best thing to do is bring the plane to a Mooney Service Center. If that's not avaliable to you I would make sure that the mechanic you choose is familiar with your style of Mooney and does several Mooney annuals per year. My mechanic is not a certified MSC but at any given time he will have 2 or 3 M20J's in his hanger that he has been maintaining for years.

If you don't have a Mooney service manuel you can get the list of items that must be completed for the annual off of their website... so I've been told.

Mooney experience is IMPORTANT.  There are some quirks that a mechanic really needs to know.

Also, stay away from anyone who offers a flat rate $1500 annual.  NO WAY to do the Mooney recommended Annual/100 hr service for that price.

IIRC the Annual/100 hour checklist and Mooney Maintenance Manuals and Parts Catalogs are in the document section here.

You can try Kerry McIntyre in Evanston, WY.  He's a bona fide Mooney expert.  DM me for another option in Provo.

Good luck!

Call Savvy and ask if they know a shop in your area (N. Utah) that has Mooney experience.

You guys realize this is an ancient thread (2009) and OP hasn’t been on MS since 2012? ;)

I found your airplane.

It would be cool if somebody would pick up the tab and ask me to make that thing airworthy. We could start a Go Fund Me to get some fuel to fly it. Where do you find someone with a type rating in that thing?

Maybe a museum? I am not sure about how the paper work is done but test pilots do flights with no type ratings.

It is an experimental jet. They used to require an LOA to fly them, now they want a type rating. This mostly apples to jet warbirds, but I think this falls into the same category. I don’t know what the procedure would be for the oral and checkride. I’m sure it would be similar to any other biz jet of the same vintage, like a JetStar.

Further reading suggests that it can be done with a LOA. The FAA would probably require a lot of swept wing multi engine jet time. It probably requires a crew of two.
