Hello fellow Mooniacs,

I'd like to introduce myself to this forum as a Mooney newbie from Germany who purchased his upgraded M20F in April 2013 and accumulated 60 Mooney hours so far...  ;-)

I spent some time lately to dig thru the topics of this forum and already found some really helpful information here... - so I decided to register and say thanks a lot!

That's my Lady:

Cheers folks,

Welcome aboard Bernd! This is a great place to talk about and learn from folks that have owned these aircraft for a long time. I'm a relatively new owner as well (14 months) and check here often as I usually pick up nuggets of information that can be quite useful and I try to contribute when I can as well.

Welcome Bernd! Nice looking F. Looks kind of like mine with a lot of the same mods. I'm going to guess it's a '68?

Welcome to the board.  I also have a highly modified F model which people look at and wonder in which year it was made.  Given that you have a retractable step I would guess yours is in the 67-68 tear range.  Where are you in Germany.  Perhaps we could meet for a Beer?  Do you fly the alps much?

Welcome! This is a great place to learn a lot about Mooneys. Many knowledgable folks here.

My Mooney is also based in Germany. There are quite few EU based aircraft represented here,

Thanks very much for the welcome... - as some already supected, my Lady is actually a 1966/67 model but she got some mods over the years from the previous owner: new cowling, new one piece J-Type windshield, one piece side windows, new wing tips plus other speed mods, new leather interior, upgraded avionics and also a new paint job some years ago...

My Mooney is based in Bavaria, EDNR near Regensburg and I could see the alps from here the last couple of days...  ;) , at least from FL50 and above...  :)

...and here's a photo of the panel for Gary:

I have questions for you! I see that you post your F as a 1966 and I'm just wondering if your serial number starts with 66-? You see, they only made 4 1966 M20Fs and I have number 4. I have searched the US registry for the other three, but they don't seem to exist anymore. One may have moved to Europe??? The other question is about the wing tips. Your photo surely implies that you have the twisted wing and so your plane is either a '66, or a '67. The problem is, I have never heard of anyone making a 205/252 style wing tip for the twisted wing. Yours does look a little different. Who made the wing tips?

I'm sorry if I sound like I'm interrogating you on your first post. I don't mean any harm. I'm just excited to see an F so much like mine with the possibility that it's another true '66 and there might be hope that I could get the slick wing tips you have! Even the paint is similar to mine! Here's 89M-

Hi Dave,

No worries... - I don't feel interrogated at all. Asking questions, giving answers and exchanging thoughts is what a forum is all about...  BTW, your Mooney also seems to be in perfect shape! Very nice!

My M20F Aircraft Log has the following information:

Date: 11-9-66
Ser.No.: 670121
Lic.No.: N9544M
Production Flight Test completed: 11-9-66
Cert.Airworthiness: 11-16-66
Ferry Flight to Germany: 12-2-66 till 12-18-66

So it was obviously build and ferried to Germany in 1966 despite having a 67xxx serial number.

The wing tips were made by LASAR just as most of the other speed mods installed:

No. 102 - Flap Hinge covers
No. 103A - Wheel Well Liners
No. 103B - Brake rotation (not installed for whatever reason)
No. 104 - Dorsal Fin Fairings
No. 105 - Tail Root Fairing Horizontal
No. 107 - Wing Tip Fairings
No. 108 - Wing Root Leading Edge Fairing
No. 111B - Inbord Flap/Filler Fairing
No. 120 - One Piece Windshield

The fiberglass cowling incl. new baffle system, oil-cooler and spinner is from Southwest Texas Aviation.
Hope this answers your questions... ;)

...and now I have one question for you:
How comes that my pictures are shown only as small thumbnails whereas your picture is full size page width???

Cheers,

Bernd

Your airplane is a '67 model. Aircraft production was at that time similar to automotive production in that some units are made in the previous year to it's official model year. The reason there were nearly no '66 model year Fs, was that by the time the line was up and running, it was time to switch over to the 1967 model year. So the very next plane down the line after mine, was produced as a '67. The only real difference being the serial number. The 66s begine with 66- and the 67s start with 67-

I'll have to ask Paul about those wing tips. I do my annuals at LASAR and have been told that they can only be added to the standard wing. Clearly your airplane shows otherwise.

The way to get your photos full size in the body of the post is to upload them to a photo sharing site, or facebook, or a blog, or some other website to host the photo. Then instead of using the attachment feature, you use the insert image button on the tool bar. It will ask you for the URL of the photo where ever it is located, then pulls it from there and displays it here.

Hope that helps! Thanks for the info!

Hello Dave,

The Wing tips from D-ECED were a part from Rusel Stallings Texan III Package.

I did the work in '98.

They are especially for the twisted Wing models.

I remember me, there were a lot of trim work necesery to get they installed, but they looks great on D-ECED!!

Hope this helps

This is just to test the import of photos from external URLs...

Maybe I'll give Russell a call, but last time I spoke to him, he was pretty much out of the aftermarket mod business.

Please do... I think a few of us might be interested in a few items...

Good looking lady, there. The green and gold go together quite well. Would love to see a picture of the panel too.

Yes, I think SWTA (South West Texas Aviation) is out of the Mooney-mod business. I tried to get one of their cowlings about 2 years ago. No luck. And a Lopresti Cowling, installed, is around $27k, so no thanks.

I was told by Russell the reason he no longer makes the cowling is the epoxy resin he made the fiberglass components out of is no longer available. There is a newer, even better resin available now, but he says that to use it, the FAA requires that he go through the whole STC process again. Not enough demand to go there again. In addition there are the liability issues as well. Maybe if the FAA relaxes a bit on the STC process with the passage of this latest bill, we can convince him to do them again. It is a nice bridge between a simple cowl closure and the full 201 conversion and the Lo Presti up there in the stratosphere.
