N9937c Posted May 2, 2010 Report Posted May 2, 2010 Flew friday night to DRT and my m20k was tied down when the hail hit later that night. It was bad enough to ground Continental Airlines plane due to damage. Anyone with exp. dealing with insurance? thanks larry
laytonl Posted May 2, 2010 Report Posted May 2, 2010 I experience hail damage many years ago in a Cherokee. Insurance company was great. They offered to replace the control surfaces, bond the fuselage and wings and repaint, or pay me the equivalent amount - and reduce the insured value accordingly. If I recall the insurance quote was about $7k in 1982. I took the money. The Cherokee now has a nice panel even if it does look like a golf ball on the outside! I still own the Cherokee along with a Mooney. Lee
Buster1 Posted May 2, 2010 Report Posted May 2, 2010 Used to live in Del Rio...the wx there can get nasty. Sorry to hear about your damage, what we're you doing down there? I'm surprised the guys didn't pull your plane in the empty hangar when it hailed.
N9937c Posted May 3, 2010 Author Report Posted May 3, 2010 I have a sailboat on amistad and didn't get there till after fbo had closed. is a very good fbo there.
KSMooniac Posted May 3, 2010 Report Posted May 3, 2010 Ouch! Sorry to hear that, Larry. I sent you a PM about your wingtips/ailerons that you posted on the other thread....I'm interested, but it sounds like you might need them now! What parts are damaged? If the entire plane is dimpled you might be looking at a total, unfortunately. Control surfaces can be re-skinned or changed.
skyking Posted May 3, 2010 Report Posted May 3, 2010 Larry: So sorry to hear what happened. That is also my biggest fear living in Alberta. Hail is as common as rain around here during certain times of the year. I know a couple of guys that have suffered hail damage and in both cases the plane was written off by the insurance company. Both chaps had no problem with the insurance as they are used to that around here. Good luck
MooneyMitch Posted May 3, 2010 Report Posted May 3, 2010 Ok Russ, so when is hail season in Alberta? Just curious.............wouldn't happen to be around the end of May would it? ha.
skyking Posted May 3, 2010 Report Posted May 3, 2010 Mitch..ROTFLMAO...lucky for you it is mostly late june and early sept. Now get on up here.
