I got sick of the lack of headrests followed by the lack of usability of the headrests that were in my 77J.  So I found a Toyota 4 runner year 2000, that fit and modified them.

It was apparent that since the seat backs were lower the tubes would be to short and the headrest swivel feature didn't allow for the headrest to tip far enough forward.   So we took the leather covers off, removed the tubes from the foam and cut the swivel bracket so it would face up, which effectively lengthened the height of the headrest by 3 1/2".  Then as a plus the swivel could also move in a greater range of motion allowing the headrests to rotate farther forward.  I did install the leather covers reversed as the poles needed a greater range of motion to allow for it to tip farther forward.

On my side I heated the tubes in a vice and used a tube to bend them farther forward.  These old mooneys have 3 adjustments to the seat back.  1 almost straight up and down (used for making more room for rear passengers) 2. slight recline back (used for no passengers and my most preferred position) and 3. laying back to take a nap  .

The nice thing about the headrest mod is when in position 1, it allows for the headrest to be positioned vertically and not tipped forward so as to not to push the head forward and when using #2 the headrest can be tipped farther forward to help support head, while seat is slightly reclined.

This isn't TSO'd but removable and usable.

Hmmmmmm, I don't know.

Awful_Charlie's avatar looks like a much more comfortable headrest to me.  :)

Ummm....Im not sure how to say this....I was in Switzerland last year - and Awful_Charlie gave me one of his headrests.  Really, he did.  I was missing a headrest and I saw he had an extra - and he just gave it to me.

Thanks Awful.
