Which multi-tool/leatherman do folks carry in their flight bag?

I currently just have my fuel tester with the screwdriver on one end (fortunately I haven't really needed than that).

Now I am reorganizing my flight bag and what to added to "real tool". I looked on amazon and there are so many different "types" of leathermans.

Any recommendations? What do others carry?

I keep an original Leatherman, Reg & Phillips screwdrivers, channel locks, safety wire pliers & wire in the back, with mechanic gloves, a few rags and some window cleaner, a quart of oil and some Tri-Flow. I always have a pocket knife of some sort with me, too--right now it's a Victorinox with Phillips driver instead of a never used corkscrew.

That's a nice kit, but it will almost fill the tiny baggage area in my C. Mine fits in a Rubbermaid tote not much larger than notebook paper and deep enough for the spray can to lie down. My torque wrench and spark plug socket are in the hangar.

Hank - I have the same pocketknife in my pocket right now too - with teh Phillips driver instead of the corkscrew - so much more useful that way.

I have several of the Leatherman tools, and like them all.  The tool that I reach for and bails me out more than anything else is a small Swiss Army knife with the basics.  I keep one in my pocket at all times.

What is a flight bag? I have an Ipad. There is a pad of paper in the back seat and 3 or 4 pens and led flashlights in the side pocket. Where do you put a flight bag in a Mooney? I used to have a pile of charts next to the pad of paper in the back seat.

I do have a tool kit on the hat rack, but the leatherman is ty-wrapped to the frame of my dirt bike to pull the cactus thorns out of my knees.

My Leatherman Blast is always in my pocket no matter where I am. It goes flying, hunting, boating, skiing, to church, to work, and even took a vacation to Europe this summer.

Ipads have their place. But they won't carry my flashlight, pen & paper for notes, snack for long flights, handheld radio, headset adapter, spare battery pack, plotter, etc.

I have all that stuff, stuffed into seat back and seat front pockets. Don't see any reason to bring it home I only use it in the plane.

I carry a screwdriver and an adjustable wrench.  After that I carry a credit card over to the nearest mechanic.

So much more effective than any "multi-tool".

My flight bag lives on the right back seat with the shoulder strap around the seat. Flying solo, it moves to the right front seat. When necessary, it's available to carry more "stuff". I can only reach the right seat back pocket, that's where the OM, Garmin books, etc. live. Seat front pocket has another multi tool, spare glasses so I don't get stuck landing at night with sunglasses again. You can never have too many knives!

Seeing that I'm a farmer, I always have one on my belt and that's also true whenever I fly. I can't think of one day going by on the farm, without me using my Leatherman, more than once. I have a Wave and a Surge.

I appreciate your sentiments. I feel the same way about my pocket knife. But I hope you don't fly commercial, or if you do, your remembering to leave it at home or pack it, is better than mine.

+ 1 Mine is a Victorinox Swisstool (better than a Leatherman in my opinion). I also carry a pretty good tool kit in a soft bag (usual wrenches, bits, sockets, jeweller screwdriver for radio knobs etc.) but I had to buy another copy of my multi-tool because I made the mistake of packing it in my hand baggage instead of my checked luggage prior to boarding a flight home. :-( Oh well...... I used to have a nice one in my flight bag. It had been in there for a while, but I never used it and eventually I forgot it was in there. A couple of months ago we had to airline out to Boise Idaho to pick up one of our Falcon 900 and you can guess the rest...

I keep one of these in the plane.   Good for removing hubcaps and cam locks.

I guess if that's fine if that's all you know how to fix.  I keep one of these in my bag just in case I break a crankshaft.  The only downside is that it digs into my usable load.
