  1. Thanks for confirming. I may be getting older but it is good to see I don’t have any holes in my marbles sack yet. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  2. The new firmware displays the tach time on the main screen. Mine is in landscape mode and it appears in the lower left corner. Older firmware, I think it was seen by pressing the 2 (LF) and 3 (Dim) button together. It first shows the Hobbs value and then hitting next button, I think that takes you to the tach time. 4. Check the P connectors on the back of the unit. It’s unlikely a number of probes would go bad at the same time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  5. Here is the scoop on O2 tank refills that I am seeing. A few years ago, I could walk into any gas supply company and get a fill up on my 27 cu. ft. cylinder for $30. Now, a number of them won’t even fill them if they suspect they are for aviation usage. I know of one place that requires a doctor’s note that it is required by the “patient” - I kid you not… I have a 3 cylinder transfill set up in my hangar. There are 4 of us who split the tank rental costs and oxygen usage. Oxygen by itself is or I should say was pretty cheap. We used to pay $16 for a 250 cu. ft. cylinder. Over the past year it has snuck up to $40 per cylinder. I checked with a couple of FBOs and they are charging a lot to for tank refills in this area (mid Atlantic). I forgot what Danb said he was paying at KILG but I think it was in the $150 to $200 range to fill his 115 cu. ft. onboard cylinder. If you can find someone who has a refill station and you use oxygen regularly, latch onto them like a leech from the movie Stand By Me. Hopefully the pricing and requirement silliness isn’t happening in your area and you will find a reasonably price refill option. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  6. I think vibration has a lot to do with the premature failures. Hot filaments and vibration don’t do well together. Interestingly, I never ever replaced my incandescent landing light for 26 years. I didn’t leave it on all the time, but it was always on for 10 miles either arriving or departing an airport. I only changed it out when I got the LED bug. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  7. My only experience with a Skybolt was the one at my airport in New York. The owner took it out on a nice western NY winter day with 2 feet of snow on the ground. He came back an hour later in a car. Apparently his Skybolt only had an hour fuel capacity and he flew 1:01. He flipped it in a field. A couple of weeks later he showed up in a bright red Pitts. 8. I agree. The market is hot and I think you’re on the low end of what I have been seeing. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  9. Speaking about the location of the probes has me wondering for those with multiple probes/instruments, what kind of temperature differences are you seeing. On my plane, I have a probe under the left wing for the JPI 900, I have another probe stuck in the left window and finally one in the Aspen RMS. When I look at the 3 values in flight, I see the JPI is usually 3° or 4° warmer than the window gauge and the Aspen could be 5° or 6° cooler than the window gauge. I haven’t checked the temperatures on the ground to see if it is an accuracy thing or if the placement is affecting them (the window gauge was always my go to gauge). Anyone else experience similar discrepancies between gauges? I think I read in the JPI manual that the OAT can be adjusted. Not sure about the Aspen yet. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

  11. Sure it does. When he gets his first $10k annual. [emoji13] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  12. You need a faster processor. Hard to say why Route 116 was selected in the town. From the terrain maps, it looks relatively flat just south of town. Depending on what was planted in those fields, it could have factored in the decision to land on the road. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

  15. In his case, the field was solid, he just didn’t realize that it had a slight upslope until he was committed. I think the wheels being down would have helped in his situation either to absorb some of the impact or allowed him to roll a bit on the slope. I agree our seats aren’t designed for any type of crash absorption. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  16. I think the terrain will dictate some of that decision whether the attempt should be wheels up or down. A friend of mine did an emergency landing after his prop broke. Attempted to belly land in a field and ended up with broken backs for him and his passenger. Got to think that the wheels would have dissipated some of that downward force in his situation. 18. The lower EGT1 reading could be just the placement in the exhaust stack. I would go back and look at the earliest data you have and see if it is following the same trend as now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  19. I agree with using a good cleaner that is friendly to electronics. A few years ago, 2017 to be exact, I was having problems with mine disengaging. I used Deep Creep from SeaFoam. The stuff is amazing. Starter has been working fine without the Bendix sticking. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  20. How about if it is changed to “Notices to Airpeeps” or “Notices to Airpats”? [emoji6] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

  22. Hey Don. I think the selling point of the Rosen’s the type of and color of the visor material. Have you explored using other types of plexiglass (acrylic or whatever you are using)? I like the blue color of the Rosen’s, just don’t like the sticker shock. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

  24. No, other than the one time on the starter bendix (which is still working great without any further lubrication). I was always concerned the Deep Creep would mess up the phenolic block. Still using silicone. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
