  1. Hang in there. My father-in-law dealt with an infection with his knew replacement and overcame it. His biggest aggravation with the situation was being kneeless for the time it takes to heal. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
  2. You’ll be happy to know they are working on a new “Modena”. With the TFR coming up frequently, they are proposing a new location for that always assigned departure waypoint. I think they should label it “STINKY” out of respect to you. [emoji13] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  3. Yep, the “unknown” of where the clearance would take you was always in the back of my mind. Especially when you realized the routing would take you over the Atlantic on your way to Nantucket. [emoji225] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  4. I think what you mentioned is the key to how to manage it. Write it down and then just enter the first couple of waypoints. I found, especially here in the northeast, the clearance I was assigned doesn’t last long. So the effort of putting in the whole clearance, including GEERI, usually was wasted energy. 5. It comes down to the difference between old school IFR and new school IFR. When I got my instrument rating, there was no GPS routing. You filed the Victor airways and you sat there with your paper and wrote down what you got versus what you filed. You got in the plane, tuned the first VOR and radial and off you went. Simple enough. Now throw in a GPS with 5 letter waypoints. You file, it is accepted and you meander over to your GPS and take 5 minutes to plug it in. You call up for your clearance and you get a totally different alphabet soup to load up. And then to make it even more irritating for you, they give you a waypoint that can be spelled 10 different ways. Was it “JERRY” or “GERRY” or “JERRI”? Oh wait, it is “GEERI”. You would think in the age of modern computers, the algorithms would be there to figure out and provide the routing you will get. We can only hope PDC is fully implemented and we can stop the “guess me if you can” shenanigans. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
  6. Wow! Never even knew that a USB interface box existed. Always thought these units allowed direct transfer to a thumb drive. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  7. Don - this is the one that came with my unit (4Gb). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

  9. Let’s hope you smooth skin guys don’t need to replace these elevators. When I was looking into reskinning or replacing costs, Mooney wanted $3k per elevator side. — And that was when Mooney was still making planes. I can’t remember who told me about the changeover from smooth to beaded. But the reason it done was it is a lot cheaper to make the beaded because it eliminated the labor to install all those little ribs in the elevator. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  10. It is mounted where the original tach and MP were located. The numbers are large that have backlighting which makes it easy to read. Oh yeah, as for the tach time - [emoji13] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  11. I prefer to be called Cheap Bast$#d. How about we add that one too? [emoji23] Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
  12. I’ve had my EI for 5 years and it is rock solid. I have two primary tachs in my plane. A JPI 900 and the EI. The JPI has been out of the panel a number of times for issues. The EI just keeps on working. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
  13. Interesting observations. My setup is an Aspen fed by the Lynx 9000+. I also use a GDL-52 to feed my Garmin Pilot. It took me a while to get used to the non convention ways some of this TFR stuff is displayed. Here are some of my experiences: - the Lynx 9000+ will show a non-active or upcoming TFR as orange on the Lynx display. It is orange up to 12 hours before the TFR becomes active. I’ll post one of these pictures when Biden’s next TFR comes up this weekend. - the Aspens show both active and non-active TFRs in red. Ask me about panic attacks. I was flying back to my airport when this showed up: It was for a TFR starting later in the day and I think it was pushed out an hour. Since it showed up in red, thump, thump, thump… Fortunately, I could see the start time was still out 4 hours. And both the Lynx and Garmin Pilot showed it wasn’t active (orange and yellow - you’re okay fellow). - I like the way Garmin Pilot presents the TFR information. Nice yellow for upcoming with a nice clear local time depiction of when it will become active. It is really important for those of us living in Biden’s TFR world. He changes start and end times frequently. And the minute it become active, he goes red. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

  15. You can find them on the shelf in between the Holy Grail and the map pinpointing Jimmy Hoffa’s location. They are hard to come by. Mooney will sell you the kit for $6300. I would start with the salvage companies, Alan Fox and Jerry Pressley. The latter two can be PMd on this site. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

  19. I used these in the past and when I had it in for an annual at a MSC they replaced them with cotter pins. Is there anywhere it is specified what can be used? I would love quick removals, especially when I need to get the co-pilot’s seat out for that special someone who takes up more real estate. [emoji13] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  20. You might get lucky from someone who removed their’s during an upgrade. I had mine overhauled at Mid Continent here in the states. They refaced it, cleaned and calibrated it. I’m sure there are other shops in Europe that can do the same work. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  21. That’s not a good sign. Have you laid it out on a paper towel to see what the individual pieces look like? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  22. I often wonder how much AOPA gets from the players in the industry (i.e. Garmin, Avidyne, etc.). Lord knows they got a lot from us… Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  23. There is a guy near me who bought my friend’s J 2 years ago. He is still flying with a CFI because he isn’t able to get a medical. You are making the right decision on the order you proceed. Many of us are expecting the day when we are told to step away from the yoke and take our feet off of the rudder pedals. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  24. Eli - I would suspect the voltage regulator. I have a 75 F as well and saw some weird voltage fluctuations on an IFR flight as well. Unfortunately, I had to have the charging system troubleshooting done at my destination because my return trip was going to be IFR. The alternator was replaced and my run up and flight around the pattern showed at steady 13.8V. About an hour into my 1+30 return flight, the voltage dropped into the 12 voltage range. Cycling the power brought it back for the remainder of the flight. I replaced the regulator with a Zeftronics and have seen a solid 14.1V for the past 4 years. BTW - Zeftronics sells a version for our model that has the Cannon plug end. Makes for a quick and easier (mounting them is a bit challenging) swap. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
