Mooney Service bulletin M20-345
Marauder replied to Dmax's topic in Mooney Safety & Accident Discussion
Let’s hope you smooth skin guys don’t need to replace these elevators. When I was looking into reskinning or replacing costs, Mooney wanted $3k per elevator side. — And that was when Mooney was still making planes. I can’t remember who told me about the changeover from smooth to beaded. But the reason it done was it is a lot cheaper to make the beaded because it eliminated the labor to install all those little ribs in the elevator. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro -
It is mounted where the original tach and MP were located. The numbers are large that have backlighting which makes it easy to read. Oh yeah, as for the tach time - [emoji13] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

I’ve had my EI for 5 years and it is rock solid. I have two primary tachs in my plane. A JPI 900 and the EI. The JPI has been out of the panel a number of times for issues. The EI just keeps on working. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

Interesting observations. My setup is an Aspen fed by the Lynx 9000+. I also use a GDL-52 to feed my Garmin Pilot. It took me a while to get used to the non convention ways some of this TFR stuff is displayed. Here are some of my experiences: - the Lynx 9000+ will show a non-active or upcoming TFR as orange on the Lynx display. It is orange up to 12 hours before the TFR becomes active. I’ll post one of these pictures when Biden’s next TFR comes up this weekend. - the Aspens show both active and non-active TFRs in red. Ask me about panic attacks. I was flying back to my airport when this showed up: It was for a TFR starting later in the day and I think it was pushed out an hour. Since it showed up in red, thump, thump, thump… Fortunately, I could see the start time was still out 4 hours. And both the Lynx and Garmin Pilot showed it wasn’t active (orange and yellow - you’re okay fellow). - I like the way Garmin Pilot presents the TFR information. Nice yellow for upcoming with a nice clear local time depiction of when it will become active. It is really important for those of us living in Biden’s TFR world. He changes start and end times frequently. And the minute it become active, he goes red. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

You can find them on the shelf in between the Holy Grail and the map pinpointing Jimmy Hoffa’s location. They are hard to come by. Mooney will sell you the kit for $6300. I would start with the salvage companies, Alan Fox and Jerry Pressley. The latter two can be PMd on this site. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro -

I used these in the past and when I had it in for an annual at a MSC they replaced them with cotter pins. Is there anywhere it is specified what can be used? I would love quick removals, especially when I need to get the co-pilot’s seat out for that special someone who takes up more real estate. [emoji13] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

I am looking for an airspeed indicator for 1990 M20J 205 MSE

You might get lucky from someone who removed their’s during an upgrade. I had mine overhauled at Mid Continent here in the states. They refaced it, cleaned and calibrated it. I’m sure there are other shops in Europe that can do the same work. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro -

Why I won't renew AOPA membership again

I often wonder how much AOPA gets from the players in the industry (i.e. Garmin, Avidyne, etc.). Lord knows they got a lot from us… Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro -
There is a guy near me who bought my friend’s J 2 years ago. He is still flying with a CFI because he isn’t able to get a medical. You are making the right decision on the order you proceed. Many of us are expecting the day when we are told to step away from the yoke and take our feet off of the rudder pedals. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Eli - I would suspect the voltage regulator. I have a 75 F as well and saw some weird voltage fluctuations on an IFR flight as well. Unfortunately, I had to have the charging system troubleshooting done at my destination because my return trip was going to be IFR. The alternator was replaced and my run up and flight around the pattern showed at steady 13.8V. About an hour into my 1+30 return flight, the voltage dropped into the 12 voltage range. Cycling the power brought it back for the remainder of the flight. I replaced the regulator with a Zeftronics and have seen a solid 14.1V for the past 4 years. BTW - Zeftronics sells a version for our model that has the Cannon plug end. Makes for a quick and easier (mounting them is a bit challenging) swap. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

The guy who experienced the issue commented on the YouTube video that was posted on a different channel. He claimed as the pilot, the plane had just come out of maintenance and the trim was worked on. Apparently the trim was in an extreme nose down position. Although he didn’t say this in writing, it sounds like he pulled the yoke off in an attempt to overcome the heavy nose down trim. He also mentioned that the plane just had a GFC 500 installed and the LVL button saved his life. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

I got sage advice from someone who has bought and sold 17 planes in the last 30 years. “Look for a plane that someone loved”. I agree with that advice. Either you pay upfront for a turnkey plane or you pay later to make it one. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

ATC reroute, reroute, reroute…
Marauder replied to BravoWhiskey's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
I do find the differences interesting in how facilities handle these requests. You would think there would be some sort of standardized process. When I fly to western New York, they never want to give me a clearance on the ground at an uncontrolled airport. I always get this question: "can you depart VFR?". And when I answer "yes", they give me a squawk code and a frequency to call them when airborne. It is only then do I get the clearance. At my home airport, don't even think about an airborne pickup. I'm sure it has to do with LOAs and workload. What my real pet peeve is why, with all of the computer technology out there, they can never seem to be able to provide a clearance that sticks. And then when you get this 10 waypoint clearance loaded up, you get "proceed direct to destination". There's gotta be some sadistic motivation in there somewhere... -
Why I won't renew AOPA membership again

I was a bit surprised at only $30k was spent in the “lobbying” category. Hmmm…. Also, they spent $54k on “boats and airplanes”. Didn’t know they had a boat. Hmmm… My disappointment with them involved their medical assistance program. I was dealing with an issue that would require an SI and they basically provided no help on how to proceed. I ended up using a helpful AME who guided me through the bureaucratic system. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
