  1. @steingar, @Marauder, @Danb: thx for the input! Great to get some other thoughts. I'll get it listed on the other sites in the next few days and see where it goes.
  2. Bumping this and providing some updates. The annual was completed a month after I posted the plane for sale. During the annual they took care of a lot of small deferred maintenance items and I have flown it about 35 hours since the annual. It is running very well and I expect that next year's annual should be a lot less work. Compressions at annual were #1 76/80, #2 74/80, #3 78/80, #4 77/80. Current TSMO ~ 1340 and TTAF ~ 4950 but I'm still actively flying it so that will go up until it sells. I didn't get much of a response to my posting the first time around. I'm guessing I listed the price a little too high and that it wasn't great to list it while it was out of annual. But the annual is current now and I'm dropping the asking price to $59k. I'm not on here a lot and I missed a couple PMs about this last time around. Feel free to email me at taitcarroll@gmail.com; I'll try to do a better job watching for PMs here but I check that email regularly.
  3. I'm selling my 1963 M20C, N6563U. Asking price is $65K but I'll accept higher offers if I've underpriced =). I bought it about a year ago and it has been great, but I have not had the amount of time to fly as I hoped and my work travel schedule isn't getting any better. So it seems better to sell it to someone to keep it flying more. I have put about 100 hours on in the last year so it has been moving, just not as much as I'd like. It just went in the shop the week for its annual so will sell with a fresh annual. Here are the specs: Garmin touchscreen GPS 175 LPV STEC 30 autopilot with altitude hold, coupled to GPS and LOC/GS Dual KX-155 navcoms, LOC+GS, LOC only Garmin GTX 327 TXP Skybeacon ADSB out with anti-collision light, Stratux wifi ADSB in to Ipad 1310 SMOH 130 STOP IRAN (for high oil consumption since orig OH), 60 SP reseal Alternator conversion Conventional six pack gauge arrangement IFR cert Audio panel with MB 4 place intercom Precise Flight standby vacuum EI UBG-16 engine analyzer w/ EGTs/CHTs, oil T, oil P, fuel P, vac P, buss V, OAT Whelan LED landing light Retractable step Multiple speed mods Both tanks resealed by Wet Wingologists East Custom cover 713lb useful load with full fuel Full logs 2003 gear collapse on landing rollout (previous pilot error), repaired by Don Maxwell A paint buff and ceramic coat job is in process and will be complete prior to close of sale. In the pictures you can see shiny wings and a chalky fuselage. Wings were complete last weekend and the fuselage should look similar after I can get another weekend in to finish it. The paint is old though and there are plenty of places that it is flaking. I've included closeups to show where the paint is failing in a full photo album here. IMG_0949.HEIC
  4. Hi @sdstolworthy, I've been thinking about selling my M20C, just logged on to here to see what the market looks like and saw your add. It's a great plane, meets your description of not fancy but a solid platform. I've had it for a year, haven't flown it as much as I planned and work is busy enough that I don't think that will change soon. It is currently waiting for an annual (I didn't schedule far enough in advance). It's currently located at S50, South end of Seattle metro area, once the annual is complete I'll probably move it to KRLD. I'm working on getting it listed on the various sites and still need to figure out what a reasonable price is in the current market but let me know if you are interested and you can be first in line. 2 year old Garmin touchscreen GPS 175 LPV STEC 30 autopilot with altitude hold, coupled to GPS and LOC/GS Dual KX-155 navcoms, LOC+GS, LOC only Garmin GTX 327 TXP Skybeacon ADSB out with anti-collision light, Stratux wifi ADSB in to Ipad 1310 SMOH 130 STOP IRAN (for high oil consumption since orig OH), 60 SP reseal Paint 5 interior 5 Alternator conversion Conventional six pack gauge arrangement IFR cert Audio panel with MB 4 place intercom Precise Flight standby vacuum EI UBG-16 engine analyzer w/ EGTs/CHTs, oil T, oil P, fuel P, vac P, buss V, OAT Whelan LED landing light Retractable step Multiple speed mods Both tanks resealed by Wet Wingologists East Custom cover 713lb useful load with full fuel Full logs 2003 gear collapse on landing rollout (previous pilot error), repaired by Don Maxwell
  5. Thanks so much for all the great input! All the hoses are coming off right now to get replaced, which I think is the reason for the big catch pan in the picture, owner says there are just couple of drops on the hangar floor normally. I'm going to go ahead with the recommendations above to have the engine cleaned and fluorescent dye added to track down the leak source. I'll make a post when I get some results so everyone gets to find out the answer.
  6. I don't have additional pictures right now but if there are any angles to look at I can ask for more pictures. The engine is getting all new hoses right now so I'm guessing that's the reason for the missing oil/air separator, guessing.
  7. It that what right side up looks like? I meant it when I said I can use advice!
  8. Hi All, I'm pretty close to owning my first Mooney and while I'm pretty darned excited about it I'm trying to make sure that I don't end up with a plane I should have passed on. Pre-buy is complete and the owner is correcting some things that the pre-buy turned up. The one item on the list that I don't know about though is an oil leak. The pre-buy A&P said it might be nothing to worry about, might also be something bad but that the engine is too dirty to see where the leak is coming from. The owner assures me that it is only a nuisance leak, but it isn't like he is 100% impartial. The plane: 1963 M20C, 1200 SMOH, 20 STOP IRAN, compressions 76, 74, 74, 74/80 per pre-buy A&P. Current owner has flown it for 17 years, averaged about 70 hours a year. Selling because he is moving up to a Columbia. Me: 120 hours in a C150, engineer for factory equipment. So a decent amount of machinery knowledge but very little directly with planes and none with Mooneys. Can definitely use input from folks here that know a lot more than I do. Plans for plane: fly around the Pacific NW for fun, use for instrument ticket training. If things go well eventually (5 years??) move up to something with FIKI. The owner just sent me this image to show what the leaks look like (I'm on the West coast, plane is on the East coast). He is saying that the oil is just oil that has leaked from the filter during changes and ended up pooling in the lower cowling. This sounds believable to me, but I don't have enough experience to know. What do y'all think? Something to worry about? Look completely normal?
  9. Thanks all! I'll get to work on setting something up.
  10. Thanks! I'm pretty clueless about locations in the NE, those are both towns? Are there specific shops that you know of??
  11. Thanks! I'll give them a call in the morning, they aren't super far from KTAN. I'm Looking at a C, the one listed on Mooneyspace.
  12. Hi All, Anybody know a good Mooney A&P to do a pre-buy in between Boston and Providence (KTAN)? Also, while I'm at it, I'd need some crossover training before flying it home to the other side of the country; any recommendations on a flight instructor? Thanks!
  13. Anybody know a good A&P to do a pre-buy in the KTAN/Providence/Boston area? I'm interested in this one but am coming from the other coast.
  14. Hi@MooneyMuscle, do you still have your plane? I'm shopping for one now and am just over in Spokane. If you do still have it for sale I'd love to come and take a look at it sometime in the next couple of weeks.
  15. Thanks again everyone for the great input. Put together this has confirmed what I have been thinking. I.e., I really can reduce a large percentage of my driving time by flying a Mooney. I'm going to follow everyone's advice and when I'm home next week I'm going to book a discovery flight. Then start figuring out how to fit flight traning into the schedule.
