  1. If you are missing a fair amount of paint, sitting outside is not a good idea, especially if you are based in an area like Florida.
  2. As mentioned, find a copy of Jimmy Garrison's pricing guide and total it up.
  3. We have seen a number of these requests to help new potential owners provide an assessment. Buying the plane at $35k isn't the issue. Finding the funds to operate the plane is where you need to be concerned. If your budget is $35k and have no additional funds to support the operating costs, you will be here a month or two after you purchased with a story of how painful ownership is. We have seen it too many times where a person buys a plane and then is contending with a $7k fuel tank reseal, unexpected cylinder replacement for $3k or some other expense that totals up to thousands. I have owned my F for 28 years. The expenses are not for the weak of wallet. Depending on the amount of flying you will be doing, you can expect to see between $15k and $25k a year in expenses. I am averaging in the mid 20k range and this is a plane that is in excellent condition. The only way around it is to cheap on the needed items or steal fuel (I have locking gas caps so go elsewhere ). I am not here to squash a dream but to provide reality to the situation. As Bob B pointed out above, there are a number of costs that you really need to understand before you make a commitment on your own. If your budget looks like our nation debt, then maybe picking up a partner is the way to go.
  4. I’m working with a pilot who working on his IFR and he is 50ish. Adult learners need a different approach which requires either more visual or conceptual training. In his case doing repeat conceptual training seems to make it stick better than doing it visually (explain it rather than show him). I would find a mentor/instructor who can identify the best approach for you and proceed from there. Fortunately some of the concepts of IFR training, like NDB approaches are no longer mainstay training but learning a GPS can certainly be challenging. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  5. Really? I was thinking about this one for my Mooney. [emoji13] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  6. Here’s an unpopular answer. Buy your replacement Mooney parts directly from Mooney and pay their asking price. A good example was that guy looking for a replacement glareshield. Mooney wanted $3k plus weeks of waiting. Companies that don’t have a revenue stream from new products need to get it elsewhere. Supporting their old products at a higher price provides an alternate revenue stream that can help. Take a look at Bendix King and Narco if you want examples of companies that tried to do this. But being a group of Cheap Bast&ds you know that ain’t going to happen. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  7. 1975 F Model. Panel restoration started 2012, completed over 3 phases. Last phase completed 2017. Circa 2000: 2013: Early 2017, planning for new layout. 2017: 2020 - ???? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
  8. Where you based Jim? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  9. Joe - it might be the interconnects between the bladders. They are mechanical fittings and possibly could loosen up. I would have your mechanic look at those areas. If it were a bladder leak, I would expect the leak to be continuous with fuel in them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  10. Looked like a couple of them were King and one was an STEC. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
  11. The new firmware defaults to showing the tach time in lower left corner. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
  12. There a few on the Aspens, one on the PS Engineering 450 and a few short ones in GTN and JPI issues I encountered. Will create one for the JPI configuration and update the Aspens to show the ADS-B In stuff as well as one for the L-3 Lynx. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
  13. Got to thank you. I have posted a few technical videos on my YouTube channel and setting up a JPI is one I should cover. Making the short video for you also pointed out an issue I discovered with the new JPI firmware. In the past, I was able to put 6 rows of analog data on the display. Now it will only show 5 despite being able to set 6 in the firmware. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  14. I was at an avionics shop yesterday and saw a number of Bonanzas being retrofitted for GFC600s. Got to see a number of removed autopilot components. A good portion of what was removed was in pretty shoddy shape. I’m surprised there aren’t more AP issues out there. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  15. 81X brings up a good point. Make sure you didn’t introduce the problem by bringing something new into the cockpit (a Spot, new cigar charger, etc.). GPS signals can be interfered with. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  16. Hey! They posted a picture of you in the lodge on that run down the mountain! Caption under said you were a natural. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  17. That flight looks like one of those FlightAware phantom flights. My N number sometimes shows up in Texas even though my plane has been there in years. It looks like one of those. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
  18. If you pull your vacuum system on an F, you can put a standby alternator on the vacuum pad. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
  19. You may want to change out those insulators while you are at it. Looks like the one showing is cracked and starting to break down. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
  20. Best way would be to ask the administrator to allow the thread to be a sticky and have people post their pictures to it. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
  21. Here is what it looks like when you don’t select digital levels. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

  23. It is a configuration change that you can set. There is a question whether you want the value to be digital. I’ll be at the airport a little later and can take a couple of pictures of what needs to be changed. Your talking about this? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  24. Antenna would be high on my list as prime suspect. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
  25. Not to mention getting warranty support!
