  1. Reminds me of an old adage that an elderly pilot shared with me: "You will find that you have all the money in the world and no time to fly or all the time in the world and no money to fly". Hopefully once I am retired a fall into the "I have all the money and time to fly" category.
  2. I think item 49 is supposed to be the rear seat heat. Problem is it never really gets back there.
  3. Hmmm. Third class? Mine was Basic Med.
  4. Fire for one. I am sure there are a number of requirements that need to be met in order to be considered an authorized parts provider. Some of it may be just documentation of conformity but others may be testing that needs to be done and documented.
  5. I think everything has been delayed. My medical information hasn't been updated on the registry site as well.
  6. When you get passed the "thinking about an eagle" and beginning "looking at an eagle" let us know what you find. There are a number of "more modern airplanes" that are no where near "modern". Here is the panel of a $170,000 Ovation. Aside of the GTN, everything in that plane is original. You want to get it to a "modern" status, drop that avionics budget on it and see where you end up.
  7. I'm not sure why you would want a copy of that painting. You change planes more frequently than some do underwear. Afraid you will buy the same plane twice?
  8. I wouldn't worry about any value loss. Just make sure all of the work was documented, you have explanations of what happened. ANy educated buyer will see and understand what was done.
  9. Check with Ah-1 Cobra Pilot if you are looking for the Klixon version. He has made up a number of sets that are a better fit than Shapeways. If you are looking for ETA covers, you're SOL except for whatever is available on Shapeways.
  10. I went through that stage as well when I had the 900 installed. I had an insert installed until I had a new panel cut.
  11. My guess is Steve is correct. There probably is some $200 dance they do for the eXtra money it costs.
  12. I thought the "X" was for Xtra eXpensive.
  13. Oscar has one in his C. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
  14. And I should add those were installed prices at the time. The 11AMUs spent on the STEC was done in 1998. That same unit today would be over 25AMUs installed. Everything was new with the exception of the WX-500. Aerodon cut me a sweet deal on a recent serial number unit with a brand new antenna and a factory 8130.
  15. Well there are a few of us, who could be lifetime members...
  16. You mean like the squelch issue or the infamous 6.50 bug? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
  17. And I have 2 Aspens, a GTN, L-3 Lynx 9000+, L-3 ESI-500, STEC 60-2 and a PS Engineering 450. They all work together. The only limitation I contend with is the Garmin doesn’t allow the FIS-B weather input from the Lynx. I suspect if I had an IFD it would. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
  18. If you are going to drop in a backup AI, why not look at something like an L-3 ESI-500? As for backup RPM/MP, I used EI primary gauges to backup the JPI 900.
  19. Hmmm, lets see what we can do. Since you already have the Aspen PFD, why don't we get rid of all those nasty round thingies in your panel? Let's add an MFD 1000, Max version of course. Take advantage of the Aspen super cheap upgrade of your PFD and make it a Max too. Now you can sell off those round thingies like the airspeed indicator, altimeter and the backup attitude indicator. I think a nice Avidyne 440 slide in replacement will provide a nice upgrade to that 1990s style GPS you currently have. Since the TruTrak is just around the corner, I would slide one of those in and while you are at it, upgrade that JPI 830 to a 900 and clean up some more panel space. Of course, a hard working E like yours would need a cosmetic upgrade while you are at it, so let's have them cut some new panels for you. This should make for a nice starting point, don't you think?
  20. I did some of my earliest avionics upgrades working with a shop. I think you’ll need to draw a line at some point. There are a number of owners where “lefty loosey, righty tighty” is still a foreign concept. If someone can do a portion of the work themselves, it certainly would help defray some of the costs but it still requires a level of supervision. Even with the avionics shops I have worked with today, it’s clear even some of the techs still need to be supervised. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
