WTB: Hartzell or McCauley 3 blade IO-520BB Engine
Cody Stallings replied to Frank B.'s topic in Avionics / Parts Classifieds
Frank, I know where there is a 400 series McCauley for sale. It will need to be Overhauled pretty soon, but it’s a 1200hr TT propeller. It will be complete as the fella went the Hartzell route. Give me a shout an I will get you the guys contact info -
Need a different plane
Cody Stallings replied to Chris Strube's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
Believe 177’s an 210’s have a Fresh New inspection that has to be done on the Carry Thru spar. May wanna make sure all is well in that area on any potential prospects -
I guess my view of a 3 blade MT or any 3 blade of a 4 cylinder is kinda dim. Don’t have any real world experience with that combination though.

Ugh... Random Engine arythmia (rocket)
Cody Stallings replied to Austintatious's topic in General Mooney Talk
Sounds like a Gov or the Gov linkage. -
I personally would just Purchase the Hartzell STC option. Finding a Serviceable C200 Series for a J May no be tough, but you can almost be certain of Last Run. So next time it went to the shop, you would be back where you are now. My Opinion of Course

Slipped to Rocket Into Gaston’s this weekend. Getting in Consisted of a RNAV 22 at FLP to get below the Clouds. After that it was no Issue at all. Getting Out was a little more of an eye opener though. I am use to a F Model going into an out of Gaston’s, which done great on the way out. Advancing the power in the Turbo Plane much slower put me further down the pasture before it really woke up(32+MP). Once the engine woke up an the wing got happy, it was no issue at all. Will definitely do it agin. Any added information on the October Fly-in?

I have Been to Gaston’s several times in My 67 F Model. Taken the family up there in the morning in the Rocket. Will see how it goes. They keep the grass mowed short an it’s rolled frequently. One of the best Grass fields I have been on.

You just say when. I can meet you there about anytime for some photos. I don’t know if Sharp Co Regional (CVK) Could handle that much Firepower on the Ramp at once. Missile + Rocket= Firepower!!!!

Next step for trace amount of something (grease?) on prop
Cody Stallings replied to DXB's topic in General Mooney Talk
It is impossible to chase out every drop of #6 using #5. however you can get the biggest portion of #6 out now that it’s an oil. You also wanna follow the 115N Manual guidance on how to grease the propeller. you can fill the hub with grease if not performed properly -
2 blade vs 3 blade on a O-360?
Cody Stallings replied to jakearey's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
I may have a bias Opinion when it comes to this Topic. An that Comes from my experiences, weather flying behind certain props, or all the Dynamic balances I have performed. The 3 Blade Hartzell is just rougher than a 2 blade or a C424 McCauley 3 way prop. Why? Hell I don’t know. Could be airframe related, or just the fact that a 4 Cylinder Non-Counterweight Engine doesn’t like them. But with that being said I can balance one to where is a smooth at a Turbo-Prop on the ground, But when it’s in the air is when I sometimes get some Lack Luster Pireps. I spent many hours flying a 67F for my previous employer with a 2 way Hartzell. It was smooth as you could ever ask for. Then one day he sold the prop off the plane, an I had to build a 3 blade from Serviceable parts we had. Once it was on the plane it was balanced just like the 2 way was. It just wasn’t as happy in the air, an it was a tad slower. But it made up for that in the climb. Talking about that same Propeller, I Ferried a J Model with that Propeller an it was Turbine Smooth. Long Story Short, It’s happier on some planes than others. -
Gatts in Kansas is a solid organization.

GNS530W Radio Navigation Question
Cody Stallings replied to Cody Stallings's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
Okay, so when it’s giving you a radial To Or From the station an distance, that’s all GPS based. The Actual VOR isn’t doing the communication to the box? So if a VOR is turned off for whatever reason, the 530 will still track it because it’s just a Fix? -
Curious. Under the VLOC Frequency window on the 530W there is a third window that can have Traffic or the VOR info your tracking. In that window, the Distance To said VOR, is that DME distance or GPS Distance? Thanks in advance.

McCauley props on M20C's
Cody Stallings replied to Warren Fors's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
I really have no idea what all the C53 is legal on. I have seen several on C Models. Could look at the TC Data Sheet for your plane. -
Idle Stall on IO550 after TopProp Conversion
Cody Stallings replied to flyingscot's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
Any chance your new prop has the Low Pitch Blade angle for a 310hp Engine? -
That’s going to be a very hard Propeller to find on the serviceable market, it’s one of the newer Offerings Hartzell produces. New would be the only way I could get that Propeller. Are they any other Propellers that peak your intreasts?
