  1. One of my favorite place I fly to every year is Madison Wisconsin. Wisconsin aviation has the following on the door giving access to the FBO:
  2. I agree with Paul that Cubans are very nice people. I went with the airlines about a dozen times. The places I stayed at are: Cayo Largo, Cayo Coco, Cayo Santa Maria, Varadero, Holguin. We did visit several cities with organized tours. I would be game to go with a group of Mooney friends if the landing fees get to somewhat less what they are now. I am wondering if they would allow landing in formation? What brings us back year after year is the quality of the beaches: white sand, not burning feet. The cost is reasonable. But I want to warn fussy people about food: Don't expect the same variety and quality as home. This is the main reason why some people don't go to Cuba on vacations. Yves
  3. Bravo for your good score! Yves
  4. Have no clue why speed got written as feet! Those nasty French Canadians! Yves
  5. Looks like he cancelled IFR. He is going straight and at 8500 feet. His ground feet is very good for 8GPH Yves
  6. I go to Cuba almost every winter... with the airlines. I am planning to do it with my Mooney whenever they are organized to receive private aircraft without charging an arm and a leg. I attended some webinars where some organized groups (mostly USA aircraft) would go there but the price was not right to take part in. I hope Mike has found a way to get there that is acceptable. For $1000 USD per person I can get a package that includes the airfare from Montreal or Toronto, hotel, food included all this for a week. Flying there and back with my aircraft costs about $1500 just in fuel. Add the hotel and food, time to travel and you can see that if handling fees are significant, this would make it a much more expensive deal... but I really want to do it at some point whenever things align properly. Attaboy Mike! Yves
  7. Just honk!
  8. How much does it costs? Yves
  9. And look at the radar data... weird! https://www.flightradar24.com/data/flights/pd204/#b9c28ee
  10. Here is another possible drone close call at 9000 feet! http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/tsb-toronto-risk-collision-1.3850218 Yves
  11. According to Andy's document it would be a 0.47 uF capacitor. Or something around 0.5 uF Yves
  12. I am with EAA C-Plan and upon renewal in June was quoted with about 5% drop compared to the previous year. Perhaps that general raise statement was effective after? or they are trying to pull a fast one! Yves
  13. If it is SSB then it will sound weird for most. Bandwidth is limited to 3KHz and there could be a bit of tone shift. 73 Ve2 GBK
  14. One issue with the Otterbox: my mini heats-up and will shutdown. Experienced this while IFR on my way to KOSH. Yves
  15. Which wire? The one that connects to the switch? Possibly. My opinion is that the amount of noise added is not significant enough to mandate trying to decrease it by putting any low pass filter. Yves
  16. I wax lucky enough (again) to win a set of Sextant LED navlights at the Mooney Caravan. I installed them in August. These do have the strobe feature. I have paid attention about EMI issues and all I have noted is a very low level noise in the headsets when they are turned on however the level is so low that I can only hear it when the radios are squelched. I am assuming that whatever oscillator they have makes it way (but not in a significant manner) to he supply voltage (12 V). Yves
  17. What is an OCD Engineer?
  18. Same issue with mine. It started doing this when a previous owner greased the thing! Don't ever do this. I use the rubber band trick too. Yves
  19. The NOTAM says closed until Oct 26th
  20. Found similar tools for CB club members: http://www.yardstore.com/safety-wire-twister-combo-includes-6-quot-18-quot-tool.html Yves
  21. Tankinbarber, I think this is a good idea... just make sure you don't run out of pizza like we did at the last Mooneyspace reunion in Oshkosh! We did organize a small get together during the Oshkosh week. See the following thread: We had over 30 people show up. We did this at the Mooney Caravan tent and the feedback has been good. I am planning a flight either to Florida or Vegas between Christmas and New-Year's so if you do this around those dates let me know... there is a good chance you can put me in as tentative. If you wish, I could put you in touch with Janet who is a lady flying a Mooney from North-Las Vegas airport who might be interested to help with a Vegas event. Regards, Yves
  22. This is the same message I had from Brittain 3 years ago. They did manage to get one for me after about 6 months if I recall correctly. Maybe they got it from KRN? I guess there is not enough volume to justify the expense for them. Yves
  23. Lesson learned: Don't sell old parts until the new ones are installed and log book signed off! Yves
  24. The goal here is for her to get her license without spending an arm and a leg right? Here is a suggestion: Find an instructor who has access to a trainer like a Cessna 150 and trade with him teaching your wife in the trainer in exchange for hours on your Mooney. Many instructors would like to have such an access. Yves
  25. wrench, I have a question: Why was the 406 MHz homing not possible? It is because you guys do not have the equipement to do so? (Directional receiving antenna and S-meter I assume) Or is it because the 406 MHz signal pattern does not allow homing? (Could be the case if the signal is sent in short bursts or some wideband stuff I am not sure about) Thanks Yves
