  1. I'm doing the same as you and upgrading later in the spring to an 900 that I'll flush mount in the panel so I'm interested in what you get for your 830. Can your shop use any of your current sensors for the 930? Nice looking paint by the way.
  2. My 201 is everything I'd had heard it would be and then some, and I've put more money in it than I should of for both creature comforts as well as modernization. If I were to move to another aircraft it would be towards more utilization to fit my needs. Iceing protection, a turbo and even though it's only myself 90% of the time maybe more room. I've spend a lot of money to get this plane to were I want it and it's flying great and is very dependable (fingers crossed). How can you complain about getting 160 knts @ 10+/- GPH and doing it with comfort and style.. If I were to pick my next plane it would probably be a 252, Bravo or a Beech F model. Of course thats considering a larger budget.
  3. Running LOP for some practice IFR Procedures.
  4. What are you replacing these with Norman?
  5. Ask Parker. He had his 252 upgraded with the changes to make it a encore with the weight increase.
  6. I tried the zulu's and preferred the Bose with bluetooth. In the year and a half haven't had any problems. They do hook up to the radio or iPod via the plugin cord and the Bluetooth/ phone has always worked.
  7. Hi John, I'm just in the minst of redoing my interior shortly. How hard was covering the panels with the Eurostretch material considering your skill set? I was told by Airtex it was difficult.
  8. Have you taken a look at the Garmin 796? It has a form of 3D vision. It as well as most of the Garmin portables have both obstacle and terain avoidance visual and audio warnings. I have an Area 510 and it's very effective.
  9. Chuck just to be fair to Sarasota, and as stated in my post, they quoted me the $9,500 but would take the DG and the 106A in trade. That lowered the price to the $9,500.00 Since then there has been an additional Aspen rebate. And this was with Sarasota (Kirk Fryer) in Venice. I would only recomend that shop.
  10. Very nice Larry and well thought out. You'll like the GTN utility. Can you give us a Pirep on the 796 when it's placed in the airgizmo?
  11. I converted to a plane power for a couple of reasons. First because the original altenator produced noise on my new GTN 750 and it needed work to fix it ($), Secondly I wanted something dependable, proven and that wouldn't breakdown at an unknown airport were it would delay my trip and the cost for repair from an unknown mechanic would drain my credit card.
  12. Check out Mike Busch's webinars. He's very discriptive on what EGT's refer too and what TIT is.
  13. This isn't very good advice. Learn all you can about what your plane will do and your limits and capabilities before you launch into some known or possible ice. Even planes that have FIKI have crashed. Don't be stupid.
  14. I read of an experimental aircraft (Lancair) that used this system with success in some severe icing. According to their website they're currently STC'd for the Corvalis and soon the Cirrus however they don't mention if it's FIKI or inadvertant only. The altenator needs to be a 7500 watt / 70 amp system and independent of the existing electrical charging system. Just wondering if you replaced the instruments that needed the vacuum pump to all electric is there an altenator that would fit where the pump is on the IO 360 ? I've been looking at aircraft that are FIKI and at the $48,000 that TKS wants now to retrofit an Ovation or Bravo it leaves open more viable options. I believe that the Thermawing is somewhere around $20,000 installed.
  15. Where are you getting the installtion done Martin? I've recieved a quote from Sarasota for $9500 installed and they would take in the DG and 106 in on trade against the install.
  16. Georgous Parker!!
  17. There's a few Encores with FIKI but but not many 252's that I've seen. I had a quote from CAV for FIKI on a Bravo for $48,000.00. I'm guessing the 252 would be similar.
  18. Christian, If you check some of previous posts on this subject there are a few guys on here with experiance. I've been looking myself for a turbo mooney with FIKI or at least inadvertant so it can get you out of a situation. I'm afraid with my 201 even with FIKI it wouldn't climb up and above a cloud deck. Just curious, have you checked into the cost of inadvertant?
  19. I removed mine before I had taken any TAS readings . I'd suggest you take some before you remove it and see afterwards if it makes any difference.
  20. I had the same problem with my Century IIB and our local avionics shop (Brant Aero) repaired some contacts and confirmed other connections to make the autopilot work again for $400.00. Sarasota offered a Stec 30 w/ altitude hold installed for $13,500 or the altidude only for $7,500.00 and if my memory is right AutoPilot Central were a little lower. My suggestion would be to check the CIIB first before spending significantly more.
  21. I'm not sure the 840 has engine monitoring capabilities. It is large and replaces the 6 standard instruments as well as having the checklist feature but for the same price you can buy the Aspen. It maybe smaller but has more features including synthetic vision and GPSS.
  22. I'm interested in buying a Bravo in the near future so I'd like to find out also.
  23. The closer to the weather you are the more the delay matters. On a recent flight from Milwaukee home I was closer to the CB's then was shown on nexrad which made your my planning more important.
