  1. Wow you got my hanger in the pictures! A1 KCHD
  2. My airplane tore loose from its tie down at Tucson international Airport 15 years ago during a storm. The airport staff said it traveled about 200 yards and was stopped by the propeller of a King Air. The Mooney unbent three chain hooks. ( it was back in its parking spot when I got there) I could not find the least bit of damage to the Mooney except for a small nick in the elevator where it hit the King air. I wouldn't worry about the tail hook.
  3. I sometimes wait weeks to put them back up. I think someone sneaks into my hanger and puts them down when I'm not looking.
  4. I would have to look at the schematics to tell for sure, but it may be your gear up limit switch. The normally closed contacts may not be making. I would lubricate both switches with tri flo.
  5. Got my plane back together, washed and waxed, meeting my CFII buddy tonight for an IPC, got my IPAD on the charger. Monday morning I'm setting the compass to 055 and flying to OSH!
  6. The first time I R&R the D3000 it took forever and caused me to use a lot of foul language. It is quite a puzzle. After 10 years of owning and servicing the dual mag I can put it on and time it in less then 30 min. If they didn't have any experience with the mag it may have taken that long. You shouldn't have to pay for their education.
  7. Switch is a circuit breaker. Either the circuit breaker is old and weak or you have a short in the light circuit.
  8. It is best to fly over the lake IFR so you can't see the water.
  9. I use a flash light. If I can see fluid it is OK, if I can't see any I add some until I can.
  10. My cowl was in the same shape as yours. It took about 80 hours of work over three months to get it right. There are cheaper epoxy alternatives. I did all my repairs with multiple layers of 3 oz. E glass. My cowl Had been repaired with polyester resin and about half the effort was removing the old repairs.
  11. Did you notice Patty Wagstaff commented on this...
  12. To make it in a 3D printer you will need a model in Solidworks or ProE. There are places that have a laser scanners that can produce the model from the old part. Find some mechanical engineering student somewhere and give him some gas money to make the model for you. He might even have access to a 3D printer. A 3D printed part will not look as good as a machined part. They don't have a very smooth surface.
  13. One thing that is not talked about much is the difference in chemistry when running LOP vs. ROP. When ROP you have a more reducing reaction in the combustion chamber. When LOP you have a more oxidizing reaction in the combustion chamber. The reducing reaction will consume the oxide deposits and leave carbon deposits. The oxidizing reaction will consume the carbon deposits and leave oxides like the lead oxide. You can get pure lead while ROP. I believe to keep your cylinders the cleanest, a little bit of both would be the best solution. I believe the crankcase stays cleaner when running LOP. I just had my engine apart and the inside of the crankcase was very clean except for a light grey coating on everything. I assume it is lead oxide. My cylinders had no carbon anywhere, just some light oxide like deposits around the exhaust valves. I have run LOP for the last 10 years. The only time I'm ROP is takeoff and climb.
  14. Just remember that they will come up faster when flying then they will on the ground.
  15. The gage in my F did that once. It had a screw in oriface in the input port of the gage. I screwed it out and cleaned it and screwed it back in and everything was fine. If it is screwed in to far the gage will be slow to respond if it is to far out the needle will vibrate with the engine pressure pulses. Adjust it till the needle just stops vibrating. Other designs have an internal oriface tube and will need to go to the shop.
  16. Will a Mooney live through a level 5 thunderstorm cell? Yes, I can say from experience that it can. Would I recommend it? No, it was one of the most frightening experiences of my life. When I was young poking around in thunderstorms seemed like good sport. Now It seems like way too much trouble.
  17. This happened in my F once. The retard breaker wire inside the mag had rubbed against the inside of the mag and shorted to the case.
  18. If you are not comfortable doing touch and goes on any runway you operate on, you shouldn't be operating on it.
  19. Maybe. I am just finishing up my annual and checked the strobes and one did not work. My friend was trouble shooting the strobes and said that one of he power supplies did not work ( I have two spare supplies). If I have a bad one ill give it to you if you pay shipping. After all I got them for free.
  20. BTW, this happens on the rebound from bump, not from hitting the bump.
  21. When you hit a bump the overcenter link will fully extend, coming off of the over center position. When it goes back to the overcenter position you hear the clunk. It is nothing to worry about and cannot be fixed. If you have the plane up on jacks pull the nose wheel down and forward you will see the overcenter link go from its slightly bent position to compleatly straight. When you release the wheel it will go back overcenter.
  22. It currently looks like I will be there Tuesday and Wednesday.
  23. A Mooney will haul an amazing volume of stuff. Removing the back seat will not get you that much, just pile the soft stuff on the back seats and strap it down with the seat belts. You can get everything you need at the show. Bring a light weight tent to keep the rain off if it rains, and a pillow and light sheet to cover yourself. It usually is not cold. Bring a folding chair for each of you and a cooler for the beer you sneak in. That is all you need. The show has plenty of food, and bathrooms and showers. Bring two pairs of shorts and two shirts and you are good to go.
  24. I got my wavier as a student. I had a hard tome telling the white and green apart with the light gun, but so did the FAA man, so now I have a wavier. (so did the FAA Man)
