  1. Renting is full of other challenges. On the east coast, time is blocked by hours. As soon as I rented my Cessna it was time to go. When my hour was over, I was tied down, handing the keys to the next person. Don't goof up the timing, a few people will be angry. Weather is your fault. Weekend trips were unavailable. Day trips Only available during the week. Keep your focus on what you want and how to make it happen... Nobody will be able to tell you what you can or can't do. Unless your married...with kids...and a house.... How's that for the power of positive thinking? Jim, Do you think my boss can give me a raise this year? Even with devalued currency the raises have been tiny. Best regards, -a-
  2. Byron, You're leaving me hanging.... That's a photo with an ugly glob of something in it. -a-
  3. Ground Tech are the east coast guys... My plane is on their website as an example. The wet ground in the picture is left over hurricane remains.... I believe the guy's name is Jim Cancil. How's that for memory! -a-
  4. I am still looking forward to the Mooney turbine, where is that agreement...
  5. How many hours required for transition training? To stay current? Landing distance any longer than an ovation? Fuel Flow? I can picture take-off, climbing over NYC, and landing out on cape cod in under an hour....delicious. Realistically the expenses are in another league compared to my current bird. I like the single engine simplicity, turbine longevity and speed are spectacular. Best regards, -a-
  6. Jerry, Please reconsider the insurance portion of your statement. Carry enough insurance to pay for whatever you run into. It's not yours to lay waste to because you don't have the last AMU that it takes to do it right. Yes, new owners run into things accidentally.... The thing they run into could be 10X the value of your Mooney. It happens faster than you can step on the brakes, pull the throttle, mixture or turn off the key. Buy insurance first, than go find a matching plane is a better idea. Not carrying insurance can lead to financial suicide, and not being able to fly for a very long time. Frugal, or cheap is one thing, suicidal is too extreme. Don't be financially suicidal. Probably not what you really meant? Best regards, -a-
  7. Strange performance. Previous read posts don't go away the way they used to. The dot or star on the left side is either faded or missing... It began last night, and continues today.... I think I may be pushing an incorrect button setting up for an unexpected result.... Best regards, -a-
  8. You've got good logic. Go see the planes with your own eyes. Professional Pre-purchase inspection will be key to airworthiness issues. Do you like doing mechanical work? Or are you already a mechanic? Under the right conditions, you can save a few bucks each year this way. best regards, -a-
  9. I went $30k with mid-time engine in 2000. Overall a great experience. Used it up before selling it. It needed paint, engine, interior and modern radios. You get what you pay for. -a-
  10. Good to have support... Ask Craig if he has considered reserving BellancaSpace.com.... Best regards, -a-
  11. Interesting topic to me....TBO. As my engine approaches TBO, my MSC continues my planned maint. and oil analysis... What are people thinking about how much time beyond recommended TBO they might get? Does anyone have experience in TBO and beyond. As expected, my interest is primarily in post TBO time for a N/A Continental IO550(G)... Any similar experience including I/O360 ideas would be helpful. Best regards, -a-
  12. Antoni, I'm no expert, but I believe the Viking has a significant amount of wooden frame parts. FYI... Do you have a plan for that? Difficult to use on the East coast. We have all the enemies of wood out here, rain, snow, ice and rats the size of fluffy kittens. Trying to help you out if you have not fully considered where that fits in your plan. I learned about one, there is a Viking out here under a roof since the 90's. It stopped flying one day, and it's been there ever since, basket case.... Never seen a flying one. The J makes a nice personal traveling machine. Best regards, -a-
  13. Mine fits perfectly and withstood near hurricane force winds that was strong enough to turn other airplanes upside down. I sent a photo to the manufacturer and it is currently on their web page of an example of how to properly cover a Mooney. Tight and smooth from cowling to back behind the baggage door. The same company built the cover for my M20C, done the same way, tight and smooth. Both came with a zipped door as well. Of course, mine was built by the other guys, not Bruce... Bruce has a good reputation, especially on the Left coast. Follow his guidance, you will probably end up satisfied. Best regards, -a-
  14. Real experience indicates you could have some failures, especially in a plane that has been sitting unused outside for an extended period of time... My new to me M20C stuck and bent a valve. That cost about $1,000 to replace the related parts. An AD had popped up a decade or so ago for aeleron control rods. Another chunk of change. There seem to be few surprises requiring a complete overhaul. Byron has detailed what his experience was in a similar situation... When your funds are limited, you still want to protect yourself from the disappointment, and understand what the risks really are. Pre-purchase inspection (to some extent) should be considered whether you buy the whole plane or 50%... At least with a proper overhaul, the value of the plane has increased, in the dire event that you are pressed to sell it to stop the bleeding. Select the right partner and the right plane to minimize your risk. Parker, Is there an insurance for this type of risk??? Best regards, -a-
  15. Look for additional back-up for the electrical system such as dual alternators. I believe they have been covered here somewhere... Also be looking for which air frames can accept the various systems... Not much help, but hope that helps get you going in the right direction this morning... Best regards, -a-
  16. It is possible to flush the system at oil change... The method that the system uses is an old style mechanical mechanism, so that digital rpm gauges exceed the accuracy of the controlling device. Best regards, -a-
  17. All hail the P51 and the Acclaim... Byron, Would the internal cylinder pressure (ICP) increase as well during over-square ops. Turbo drivers put up with worn cylinders as a cost of going fast with high(er) ICPs. Ovation drivers, not so much. I don't think ICP data and limitations have been widely collected, yet.... Your thoughts? Or did I miss something... -a-
  18. Ummm, 6 pages of how to inspect tubes on the side of the airplane below the windows for rust. Key topic is removing bad insulation. All side windows should be flush when installed properly. This will keep more moisture from leaking in. Sorry, couldn't find the exact phrase that you are referring to. Let me know what you saw or where in the six pages.... Best regards, -a-
  19. Nice photos. The exhaust valve on that one looks good, uniform and orange, right Byron? Best regards, -a-
  20. John, I may have a set of manuals. I have to check my shelf for the year and serial numbers that they cover. I originally bought them to cover my 65C. Or did you only want the .pdf copy? Best regards, -a-
  21. What I learned today.... It is better to use the JPI to find a problem exists, than to wait to see oil running across the windshield or down the nose gear. Well determined outcome. Congratulations on getting it all back in order. Best regards, -a-
  22. It was difficult to get fuel from the carb to the cylinders in cold weather. A primer would have been a nice addition. Cold days got a lot of pumps of the throttle. Temperatures below 20 deg F required pre-heat. In NJ, few days are that cold. My 65C followed Hank's experience. Best regards, -a-
  23. Can you measure distance from the ground to the jack points on both sides? Since you have all things balanced already, i am thinking you should be able to measure a difference this way more easily than seeing the difference... Best regards, -a-
  24. Jolie, Your "productions" get better and better each time! Best regards, -a-
