  1. There is supposed to be a tube from the vent to drain out the bottom. The PVC usually gets old in about thirty years... Something to consider anyways... -a-
  2. PNE aka NorthEast Philly is as close as you can get without using a helicopter. A rental car would be good to get you to all the sights. A single cab ride will definitely get you to the center of it all. There are plenty of trains in the area, especially from Trenton to Phiily the rails go right past the airport.   5. (1) get an issue of trade-a-plane the engine over haulers and re-manufacturers are in there and can give you prices with good details... (2) search this site for discussions on overhauls and tops specifically for turbocharged models. Apparently if you are knowledgable, have good engine instrumentation and maintain self control, you can get to TBO. It appears that there are some people that prefer to fly faster at the cost of a few cylinders before TBO. TBO is often 2000hrs for most Mooney engines. A cylinder overhaul can be in the $1-2k, from my casual research. (3) if you use flying as part of your business the extra speed, functionallity and flexibillity afforded by turbocharging makes sense. Ice protection is something to consider as well. Start reading about oxygen systems as well (oxygen masks, flow meters, oxymeters etc.) (4) consider factory re-manufactured engines. These are essentially brand new engines with some money saving used parts. The important part is they get a zero time log book as if they were brand new. (5) all of this is icing on the cake, an instrument rating and a lot of experience will be important to you as well. This is an opinion piece from an east coast flyer who has studied this same topic a few times in the last 15 years. The result each time was selecting a large Normally Aspirated engine.   11. Respectfully ask what happened to the owner... He seems to have left behind a nicely upgraded and renewed F. Maybe he moved on to a M20K or Bravo David, Are you close enough to AAA? If you are, go see it and other F, J, Ks... (your TX has fallen off your address...) For the most part, Jimmy and David get to represent and sell the nicer half of what's available...   12. NewGuy, From memory, The Spring supplies most of the force to raise the step. Without the spring, the step would probably over power the vacuum system that is responsible to raise the step. I am not qualified to answer any further.... What are you thinking of having done? I cleaned my 65C's spring and the system returned to proper smooth operation... Best regards, -a-

  16. Be careful cleaning the spring. It has a tendency of winding itself up terribly. Cleaning it is good, letting it wind up out of control is bad. Clean and lubricate makes good sense. Raising the step while the spring doesn't recoil allows for the evil to present itself. Sorry I can't explain what to do, or what to avoid, but hopefully gets you going in the right direction. Overall, you can do it. It is the right thing to do. Just be careful to avoid ruining the spring.... Best regards, -a-

  21. RJ, it seems normal to wear out cylinders in turbo engines. Are you not seeing wear, or you are able to combat wear by maintaining cylinder temps? Even the continental owned by orangemtl seems to have cylinders replaced near to half TBO.?? (sorry if I got this wrong) The thing that kept me from buying a turbo is too much rumor and not enough demonstrated facts. A TOH is 12 grand in parts. East coast flying, not as critical. Engine monitors and communication of experience have become a wonderful tool... Thanks, -a-

  23. Norbert, That is not original 1963? That appears to be an upgraded six-pack on the left and a complete change on the right. Including the replacement instruments. Definitely consider the Hendricks panel. It'll finish what it looks like someone started already. Just sayin'... -a-
  24. The Stefanovm site includes humidity in the calculation. Not as portable as an i version. WingX also helps with their version. I'll check out AutoDens. East coast departures are not that critical, at 125' msl and 3,000' long runway...until it is hot again and fully loaded. Thanks, -a-
