  1. RJ, That's compelling! Who wouldn't want that? -a-
  2. The panel of the 94 Ovation is awfully vertical compared to the 65 M20C which had a definite slant from the midpoint, top to bottom? Best regards, -a-
  3. That's dedication to the beautiful Mooney Style! Is that from the Baverian Mooney Works? -a-
  4. My 65 C step had an aluminum fairing in the shape of the hole in the fuselage. The fairing itself is often damaged by feet missing the step. It was also a collector of dirt and grime. A few screws held it in place. If you can't find it from Mooney, it would not be too difficult to have fabricated. I like Dave's advice below... Best regards, -a-
  5. I believe in '94 the factory was still putting it in the wing with rivets indicating which panel it is behind... Best regards, -a-
  6. The RainX product was touted as a Teflon in a solvent. Not terribly toxic. The Teflon itself is stable and inert, the solvent is minimal in quantity. Watching the rain drops bead up and run back is priceless. Keep in mind that this is automotive experience on a glass windshield... Be cautious on using this product on paint and polymer surfaces such as windshields. Test it on an acrylic sheet first....and other painted aluminum sheet. Then test it on non aviation freezing conditions. It's a nice idea if it can be executed in an aviation safe way... It lasts for a few months or until the windshield wipers are used... Again, these are untested ideas, but an interesting place to start. Best regards, -a-
  7. The first repost disappeared. The second is missing most of the characters, the ones that showed are missing the basic character color and shape. Next will be a test of tapatalk... -a-

  9. ☺☀☔☁⛄⚡ Retest of the iPad international keyboard attribute. -a-
  10. Just be careful of the chemistry. It is made for glass. I don't know the effects on paint or plastics... Best regards, -a-
  11. José, RainX??? Keeps water from sticking to my car's windshield. I haven't tried it in icing conditions though... Requires similar effort to applying wax. Wipe on, let dry, wipe off excess. It has an alcohol base, maybe challenging to some paint surfaces. -a-
  12. On my 65 C paint maintenance was often done at annual. A spot here a spot there. Small spots of corrosion are expected. Taking care of it can be expensive. Ignoring it can be very expensive. Pre-purchase inspection is critical. Have it painted and kept indoors can solve a lot of the challenges... Best regards, -a-
  13. I have made thermoforming tooling from existing parts in the same fashion as described here. Unfortunately, I can't say anything about hydro forming sheet metals... Best regards, -a-
  14. On the topic of Acts of God required... My Ovation is coming up time for an overhaul. Since everything FWF is going out to be improved, I did some homework. I can replace the NA IO550(g) with TN IO550(g) for a few dollars more (the cost of two turbos and a new exhaust system) This essentially would be an Acclaim without the Garmin G$MM Avionics. EVERYTHING is a documented, well proven system, accept for one thing, my serial number begins with a 29 and real Acclaims begin with a 31....? Real turbocharged engines benefit from low compression ratios, but TN engines continue to run even with major intake leaks. Notice the (g) tag in both their names... Nearly identical except for the turbos and exhaust... I was pretty excited about the opportunity to achieve Acclaim like performance at the minimal up charge of additional key hardware. The discrepancy in SN would cost a mint in FAA documentation...or an act of God. The next version of the Rocket would use something like the TN IO550(g), and it would be a mean traveling machine! Back to the drawing board... Best regards, -a-
  15. EB, Balancing the flow of air has been around commercially since the mid 80's on Corvettes. Each intake runner is the same length and diameter. This allows for the delivery of a uniform shot of air to each cilinder. Overall delivery of identical shots of air to match the balanced shot of fuel. Act of god will be required... -a-
  16. Don't forget the nicely balanced and curved intake runners on the IO 550. It works on Chevys as well. Could probably work on Bravos... -a-
  17. Wings is the birth place of AOPA. A decade ago, they had a nice restaurant on the field. It's been a while... -a-
  18. "How high is the risk of intake icing in clean air? Have there been cases of engine stoppage with ram air open?" Pod air, The cause of intake ice is... moisture and cold. The pressure drop generated by the nearly closed butterfly valve creates a localized drop in temperature in the air entering the engine. A drop in temperature and pressure can cause water to fall out of solution. Evaporating fuel in carburetors also cools the air entering the engine. Temperatures below freezing can cause freezing. Things to avoid: Avoid high RH, near freezing temps, carburetors, and low power settings. Clouds at your altitude are a hint at RH. WOT has no pressure drop related to the butterfly valve. My thoughts anyways. My only experience with ice was in an M20C with very high RH. It was a hazy day and carb heat was the solution to the challenge. Best regards, -a-
  19. The smiles seem to not want to show up though... But this one was selected automatically from a semi colon and parentheses??? -a-
  20. I have been out in the pre hurricane time, tying down other peoples airplanes. Try to bring extra rope with you. When the wind gets above 35 kts, dangerous stuff is already blowing around. -a-
