  1. Sounds like same old story - VFR pilot into IMC at night. But not talking to anyone??? http://www.cnn.com/2013/10/30/us/nashville-plane-crash-mystery/
  2. I had a complete strip and polyurethane reseal by Midwest Mooney several years ago. Recently developed a small leak inboard passenger wing. I contacted Matt Lovett at Midwest Mooney. They are no longer doing fuel tank work. He recommended Paul Beck at WeepNoMore, LLC. I emailed Paul and explained the situation. He was quick to respond and very honest that he had not done repair work on tanks with the polyurethane sealant. I made the trip to Wilmar, Mn on 9/13. I arrived late Friday morning. Paul was very professional and knowledgable. He was able to quickly find the leak and apply his fast curing sealant. We filled the tanks the following morning and waited. NO Leak. I was on my way home less than 24 hours after arriving. Paul was great to work with and I recommend him highly for anyone needing fuel tank repairs.
  3. Check out http://excellenceingeneralaviation.com/Excellance_in_General_Aviation/Greeting.html Dave Maynard does an accelerated instrument training course that includes ground training. Great guy! Very comprehensive program. I did my instrument training with him a couple of years ago.
  4. Midway is great! Close to the city! I have had good experiences there. Controllers talk fast but are accommodating to GA aircraft. I always file IFR flight plan in. Have use Signature FBO. Good service. Nice facilities. Not sure about other FBOs on field. Have also flown into Gary and Lansing. MDW is much better!
  5. I recommend DAY (Dayton International). It is a GA friendly Class C airport. Very easy to get in and out. I am based at Aviation Sales (ASI) on the east side of the field. Tell ground parking at "ASI". I would call ASI in advance and ask to speak to Phil. Tell him you are flying in for the day to visit the museum. I am sure he will arrange a loaner or rental car for you. Its about 15 - 20 minute drive to the museum. Its definitely a shame that the experimental and presidential hangars are going to be closed to visitors. Even so, there is enough to see at the museum to keep you busy. I truly believe it is the best aviation museum anywhere. Let me know when you are coming! I always enjoy meeting other mooneyspace pilots. Hope this helps-- Patrick
  6. I'm currently working on my multiengine rating at OSU. It's a great airport! Very busy for a class D. Great service! Easy access to I-270 and other major highways. Sad to see the tower is on the chopping block due to the "sequester". Rumor is that they may have to close the tower at least one of the weekend days. -Patrick
  7. Muncie Aviation does good work. They have performed my last two annuals. Very professional and organized.
  8. Not bad! I got email notice of $1500 rebate for MFD 500 + Connected Panel install thru Nov 30. Total would be around $7K after rebate.
  9. Anyone know the price of adding the 500 MFD to a panel with existing 1000 PFD?
  10. Contributed via PayPal! Glad to help!
  11. Andrew, I am based at KDAY. I recommend either Aviation Sales (tell ground ASI) or Wright Bros Aero for fuel. Both are good. I am hangared At ASI. We did DAY direct CYTZ last summer and used Porter. They were good and clearing Customs was a not event. Very short ferry ride from Toronto Island to downtown Toronto. Definitely check out the National Museum of the AirForce in Dayton when you have more time. It is great! We are planning trip this summer with stops at Niagara Falls (KIAG), Montreal, and Maine (to be determined). Have a blast and let me know what you recommend in Maine. Patrick
  12. Sturgis Aviation in Sturgis, Mi (KIRS) did a great job on my F! It has been two years and paint still looks terrific. They were also rated one of top paint shops by Av Consumer.
  13. Looks Great!
  14. Great choice of colors! They did an excellent job. Shadowing on numbers is perfect!
  15. Tragic, Sad, Horrible... Not enough words to describe. Thoughts and prayers are with their families.
  16. I had the same thing happen a while back. At first we thought it might be the turn coordinator going bad. After some investigation, it turned out to be a mlafunctioning alarm horn from the Davtron digital clock in the panel.
  17. Thinking about getting Stratus and cancelling XM weather. Will be anxious to hear your thoughts after you fly with it!
  18. We have two children ages 5 and 18 months. They both flew from 3 months onward. The 5 y/o loves flying and radio jargon is already a second language to him. He flys with me on Pilot N Paws rescues. We do a lot of weekend trips to fun places that would not be possible by car. The baby usually falls asleep shortly after takeoff and the 5 y/o plays on an IPad. They are usually content for the first couple of hours and we try to plan a stop for trips longer than 3 hours. They take flying for granted and don't yet realize how lucky they are.
  19. Quote: 231flyer Muncie Aviation in Muncie IN. They are a MSC and do great work. I used them all the time when I lived in Dayton OH. Infact they did the prebuy on my 231 in 1993.
  20. Definitely looks like a sleeker retractable DA-40. 200 knots on 10g/ hour sounds great. I am curious what the price point will be.
  21. Quote: gsengle Any options better than renting a car just to go over to the museum for a few hours?
  22. Skybrd- DAY is the closest airport to the museum (15 miles vs 20 miles from Wright Bros MGY). I would love to get permission to use the old strip behind the museum for a GA fly in. I will have to look into it.
  23. Quote: Mitch National Museum of the AirForce is one of the best aviation museums in the world. You truly get to see the history of aviation from the Wright Bros to the F22 Raptor. If you go, get there early and sign up for the tour of the presidential hangar. It is located on the active part of Wright Patterson AFB. You get to see and walk through multiple presidential planes including SAM 2000 that president Kennedy's body was flown home on from Dallas. Museum is free, but the presidential tour fills up early. I am based at DAY (Dayton International) which is close to the base. Very GA friendly for a class C airport. Let me know if you can stop by and I might be able to meet up. Patrick
