  1. I live in Dayton and am based at DAY. In addition to the Airforce Museum, the Wright Aviation Center at Carillon Park is worth checking out! https://www.daytonhistory.org/visit/things-to-see-do/wright-brothers-aviation-center/ They have the original 1905 Wright III flyer and a replica of the brothers bicycle shop. Huffman Prairie is also worth a stop. It's close to the base. This website lists a lot of other parks on the Dayton Aviation Trail. https://www.nps.gov/daav/index.htm If your a steak lover, definitely check out The Pine Club. They have awesome steaks. Cash only though! http://www.thepineclub.com Let me know if you have any other questions. Enjoy you visit!
  2. So sad to hear this news! Thoughts and prayers to all involved!
  3. French Lick Resort http://www.frenchlick.com has three golf courses. The Pete Dye course hosted the Senior PGA Championship this year and is pricey but awesome! The resort runs a shuttle to and from French Lick Municipal Airport (KFRH). Arcadia Bluffs https://arcadiabluffs.com is an awesome course along Lake Michigan. Resort will ususally pick you up at Manistee Airport (KMBL).
  4. Me too! First Foreflight, now Aspen! I didn't think Garmin would do it. This has been a great week!
  5. Good news for Aspen MFD owners--- July 25, 2015- http://www.eaa.org/en/airventure/eaa-airventure-news-and-multimedia/eaa-airventure-news/2015-eaa-airventure-oshkosh/07-25-2015-garmin-expands-gdl-88-display-options "Through a third-party interface in the GDL 88, compatibility is also expanded to include select Aspen Avionics flight displays, which is expected later this year."
  6. +1 more added to the club that have those devices added to the top of the wing... My excuse is that they were already on the plane when I bought it last year. I was going to leave them off when I eventually get the plane painted but I'm starting to like them. Ha ha!
  7. We just arrived at KATW! Great flight from Ohio! It was our first time crossing the "pond"! http://flightaware.com/live/flight/N94MR
  8. Advanced Pilot Seminars! Attend in person or do the online course. It's life changing and well worth the cost! Check out http://www.advancedpilot.com
  9. Jan 4.4 Feb 3.6 Mar 9.4 April 17.2 May 3.3 and counting but plane going for annual on the 18th Planning trip out west in June and OSH in July. Would love to fly 100+ hours this year!
  10. It was a pleasure meeting Ned and Ute today! Hope you enjoy the museum tomorrow! Godspeed for the rest of your trip! Patrick
  11. Thanks for the info! I've been slow to the party and just got on instagram last month @apilotnamedpatrick I am now following @mooneyintl
  12. Great decision! I will be tracking your flight on Saturday. I'm working this weekend but hopefully will be able to swing by the airport in the afternoon. Safe travels-- Patrick
  13. Ned, Weather forecast for Dayton and SW Ohio is not looking great for tomorrow. Please be safe. I have to work until 5p tomorrow evening. I'll look for you on flightaware. If timing works out I can stop by the airport on my way home. If I don't catch up with you, please do not miss the Presidential/ Research & Development Gallery tour at the museum. These aircraft are housed separate from the museum on the controlled part of the base. There are four tours daily. You must sign up for these tours first thing in the morning when you get to the museum. They fill up quickly. Ask a museum volunteer to show you to the sign up desk. They require govermnent issued ID(drivers license) or passport. The planes are unbelievable including SAM 2600 (Air Force One) which tranported JFK's body back to Washington after his assasination in Dallas. R & D hangar has XB-70 Valkyrie and mutliple other one of a kind aircraft. http://www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/exhibits/presidential/index.asp http://www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/exhibits/r&d/index.asp Have a safe flight! Patrick
  14. Ipad Air 2! I've tried the mini but much prefer the larger screen of the Air 2. It's so light and thin you barely notice it on your knee. I use Foreflight and have never had a problem with crashing.
  15. Sound reasonable. There's Comfort Suites Wright-Patterson directly across from the museum. There's a Super 8 close to the airport. Dayton's not that big. You'd be fine either way.
  16. I'm based at DAY in Dayton. My M20R is hangared at Aviation Sales, inc (ASI). DAY is class C with multiple runway options and approaches. It is a designated point of entry with customs agents available if you wanted to go direct from Ottawa. Controllers are GA friendly. There are 3 FBOs on the field. I would recommend either Wright Bros Aero or ASI. It's about a 15-20 minute drive to museum. There are multiple hotel option nearby. Let me know when your coming. I would be happy to show you around! Patrick
  17. There is a link on the Charlie Victor Romeo homepage that explains how to host a screening. http://charlievictorromeo.com/screenings/host-a-screening/ . My goal was to bring a bunch a pilots and aviation enthusiasts together. It's been a fun project but more difficult than I thought. The film was also released a couple of weeks ago on iTunes.
  18. We are having an exclusive one night only showing of the film Charlie Victor Romeo at The Neon in Dayton, Ohio on Thursday Feb 19 at 7:30p. The film is a reenactment of 6 major airline emergencies based on the cockpit voice recordings. The film has played mostly in major cities and has been used by the USAF and FlightSafety for training. We have visited 8 local airports and several National Aviation Heritage sites to drop off posters in support of the screening. I am donating all of my proceeds as promoter to The Air Safety Institute, a division of AOPA Foundation. We have sold 77 tickets thus far! Theater capacity is 130. This is an exciting event for the Dayton aviation community! Tickets are available online through the event page https://www.tugg.com/events/12192. Tickets cannot be purchased at the theater. We are arranging to get together for dinner prior to the screening and will have a post screening debrief at a local microbrewery. Locations to be determined soon. Please let me know if your are interested in attending or need any additional info! Hope to see you there!
  19. Useful load increased from 1038 lbs to 1156 lbs. Amazing.
  20. It's the Alpha Systems Legacy Kit! Previous owner had it installed. The placement in the panel allows me to have it in my line of sight on approach to landing. It's great as another aid to situational awareness!
  21. The PMA 450 is great! It's the best sounding and most intuitive audio panel I have ever experienced. The IntelliAudio feature works as advertised. It allows you to place different coms at different positions in the headset. It's a very cool feature! The bluetooth capability is seamless and pairs very easily with your phone. There are minimal buttons on the panel and the system is very easy to navigate. The digital recorder feature helped me with a complicated clearance at MDW the other day and is another great feature. PS Engineering have made an innovative state of the art product that is intuitive to use with features you did not know you needed. I would definitely recommend it to anyone in the market for a new audio panel!
  22. It was a difficult decision. I had an Aspen PFD in my previous F model and felt comfortable with the box. The Aspens also fit better into the existing panel.
  23. I purchased N94MR in the late spring. It's a 1994 M20R. Panel had GTN 650 and EDM 900. I added the Aspens and PMA 450 PS engineering audio panel. We were able to get rid of the vacuum system and a bunch of old wiring. Substantial increase in useful load. What do you guys think?
