  1. That is nice to hear about Alcor treating their customers well. I had a similiar experience with Sky-Tec last week on my starter. I've been having issues with it over the past few months so I had it sent in for an overhaul during my annual. We needed a quick turn around and Sky-Tec did not have a overhauled one to ship out so... viola! They gave me a brand new one for the overhaul price of $200. Can't ask for any better than that!
  2. Good to have a local group. Count me in!
  3. Alright... the plane is in annual and we are taking a hard look at getting the consumption issue taken care of. For new rings and honing the cost is $2800 (2k to shop plus $800 for removal/replacing). My mechanic says that for "only" $1400 more I can get completely overhauled cylinders. I would obviously like to save the money if the cheaper route would solve the problem. What are the positives and negatives in just re ringing/ honing vs getting OH cylinders? It sounds like several of the posts above were sucessful in just getting the rering and hone. The shop quoting the work is Gibson which is in Oklahoma. Any comments on the process, price or experience with this particular shop would be appreciated. Thanks!
  4. Papa Xray is in annual and in need of a better operating DG. I can get the new Sigmatec 4000 C for a little over 1600 bones, a Mid Continent OH for $1400ish or a repair for around $800. Anybody been through this and what would you recommend?
  5. Quote: ehscott Thanks for the heads up on MM. Any suggestions for another shop east of the Mississippi that can do these two projects?
  6. Quote: Magnum If you can't attach the pics here, you can upload them to the photo galleries. I don't know much about Mooney Mart but remember some negative statements here or on the Aopa forum? Maybe some other members can give you first hand info.
  7. Thanks for the imput guys. I PM'd you jlunseth
  8. I'm getting ready for an annual next month on my 77J. Where can I get a Mooney specific checklist of what needs to be done including all AD's...? Will the Mooney company provide one? Thanks in advance.
  9. Congrats on both fronts Craig.
  10. My J does not have the hub cap on the front landing gear although I noticed that some J's do. I originally thought it would be a simple process of just screwing it on, but now believe it comes in two pieces and the plane has to be on jacks to have it installed. I purchased it from LASAR and was wondering if anyone out there has put one on themselves or have had it done.
  11. Yep, Magna is run by the same guy. I would be very careful in dealing with them. There are several of threads on this site about the problems asssociated with this individual and his numerous companies
  12. Thanks for the info Randy. Next time I'm at the airport I'll take a look at my POH and see if there is any info in there, if not I'll call a MSC.
  13. Is there a way to warm the oil temps up when flying in cold wx? The Cherokee I learned in had a cover you could screw on for the colder days that kept the oil nice and toasty. Is there anything like this for the Mooney line?
  14. Quote: 201Pilot I never fully trusted MOA, primarily because of the association with Mr. Jacobs.
  15. The Mooney saved Christmas!! Local oads and interstates were closed due to the recent holiday storm. Luckily the runway was cleared and we were able to make the holiday trips with no issues. Plus I had a 50mph tailwind to boot:)
  16. Here are a few unseen costs that I have run into in my first year of ownership of my J model. Prices are from memory and not exact: Prop overhaul- 3k, boost pump 1k, gear motor overhaul 2k (luckily the gear got stuck in the down position) starter overhaul and new battery 2k . This annual I know that I have to get my DG rebuilt as well as get my tach overhauled. I'm sure the list will grow:)
  17. Heading south about 150 nm to central Ark for a night with the inlaws. The next day we are heading to NW Missouri to visit some more family members. Merry Christmas everybody. Fly safe.
  18. Go for it... obviously the alternative to the more common horsepower is working for St. Nick. I take it is FIKI?
  19. Bruce- There is a previous thread on this subject. I think mooneyspace member Parker Woodruff may have a set or some info on a set.
  20. Docket- For what it's worth, Sarasota Avionics did the install on my 430 and STEC. I bought my plane in Florida so at the time it was convenient to have it done there before being delivered. They did great work, were on schedule and have provided great customer service after the install. I have had a few questions thoughout the last year or so and the owner, Kirk, is always very responsive. I do agree they seem to run a little on the high side pricing wise. I hope this helps, good luck in your search.
  21. Bob, Don't feel bad about getting behind the new plane. 1 year and 200 hrs later I still find myself occasionally 6000'AGL and still climbing with takeoff flaps! Just remember to to pull the little white round thing into the down position before landing and you should be OK
  22. Quote: N6843N I had a real bad experience with Mooneymart in FL. I put a deposit down and they did the pre buy on an airplane they had consigned to them to sell. After the prebuy they refused to sell me the plane and charged me a large sum of cash for the inspection, I felt ripped off. When I bought my current "C" it was half way across the country and I had a very good experince with a small FBO that had it for sale. They charged me the amount it cost them to list it on line for a non refundable deposit I thought that was fair. They also worked with me as far as taking any pics I wanted and faxing log book copys of what I wanted to see. I got exactly what I thought I was getting. It helped that my plane had the original paint to see there was no damage history and the fact it was low time and well maintained was a big plus.
  23. Love the map, thanks for getting it together!
  24. The last few times that I have flown my 430 has been acting a little cranky. Basically what is happening is that when I take offf and activate the flight plan the unit will zoom way out. I'll zoom it back in and a few minutes later it will zoom out again. Yesterday I was practicing some approaches and while doing a procedure turn it was zooming in and out randomly while I was completing the turn. I have not talked to Garmin about this and was wondering if I may have accidently hit a button that triggers an auto zoom function.
  25. Great idea. Anybody know how to get it going?
