  1. Quote: KLRDMD I'd like to know the source for your 90% statement, because it has no basis in fact for the hundreds of Mooney's I know about.

  3. Back in the "old days" NDB way the way we learned to fly approaches. They still easily get you in the ballpark, if/when GPS and VOR is shut off and our expensive gizmos can't help. Plus you can listen to music for free :-)
  4. Quote: 16LPilot ....I seriously get as excited about efficiency as I do speed.
  5. Quote: 16LPilot .....I definitely looked cooler (also could be my imagination).
  6. I would be envious, but I hate digging my Mooney out of the mud :-) Be careful, you guys, and have a blast!
  7. Quote: GeorgePerry I've always just used the top of the white arc on the A/S indicator.
  8. Well written, Don....please stick around. The threads, the people and the logic around here are much easier to follow, then over on the Mooney List. ;-)
  9. Breitling Colt GMT.... It's amazing how the same topics on the Mooney Talk list pop up here :-)
  10. I've had the since day one, 15 years ago, on my J....rarely use them. Ok to slow down quickly , and stabilize a bit in very strong winds. They have zero effect in ground effect. Best use....looks cool to the unsuspecting, popping up on the ground.
  11. Quote: allsmiles What is or isn't state of the art is a matter of opinion. Certainly we all make decisions that we have to be happy with. This is especially true in avionics because we never recover what we spend. 430 530 WERE state of the art when they first came out 15 years ago. So were those huge CRT computer monitors. Today things are different. Technology has advanced to where we have flat LCD displays. To give you an analogy. Got it now!
  12. Garmin is MY state-of-the-art. :-)))
  13. Keep that beauty clean! Now, how about the interior?

  15. Lots of fine ideas about new Mooney products, that have been talked about for ten years over on the Mooney List, which the factory monitors. Due to the economy, the investment requirements, and the otherwise poor outlook for GA in general, what can sustain the Mooney factory? Between liability protection, the need to certify any new design with the FAA (pricy and time consuming), and the small delta from a 300 HP to a 200 HP engine and an added 18 inches.....back to the topic at hand, sustaining the Mooney factory. They have the skill set, the factory panache and the people, do due major refurbs better than anyone else and for a competitive price. But they don't....why? What they do offer is price very high, delivery times and quality have had mixed results, and so the volume isn't there. Whomever is, and has been, calling the signals just doesn't have the foresight to make the right decisions, IMHO. IMHO, without a serious and price competitive (not top of the curve but near the middle) refurb business, Mooney isn't going to make it for much longer. Take in planes for sale, spruce them up, and sell them, maybe on consignment, and do good refurbs for the current market. Someone at the top of the food chain in Kerrville needs to take the blinders off, and soon!
  16. LOP vs ROP arguments, for some reason, seem many times directly proportional the AGE OF the person arguing. Like Jerry, however, I sure hate to give up that 5-7 knots when LOP. Aso, having my cowl flaps in trail (15 degrees) doesn't impact my airspeed at all.
  17. George, isn't it YGTBSM? About mama:
  18. Anyone know which one of his guys, Mike or Tom, is out of commission? ...and The Don is The Man, giving more free advice and help than anyone else! Just don't tell him I said so
  19. Good ideas, Geoff. Sharp pencil to the E/F/early J market, no customization other than paint and interior color, very basic, remove the middle man and sell directly from factory, and maybe a 2 year and/or 600 hour warranty for $150 to 175K could work. Less, of course, for owner supplied planes. A strong, SINGLE, national club/network could do wonders. Mandatory that the factory get competitive with the rest of the market on upgrades. Right now their pricing, and delivery timing leaves much to be desired. Someone with aviation savvy, some guts, and a NEW vision needs to step in, if MAC is to survive. The opportunists, bean counters, foreign investors, and hi-bye people have done Kerrville a grave disservice. Need to think way out of that box in the current environment, which ain't easy in the aviation industry. Sitting around and hoping the economy gets better is a recipe for a slow but sure death.
  20. I, too, have been using AoA for many years, without issue. If anything really looks out of wack you can call them, but they will probably have called and emailed you first.

  22. We had a great turnout at last month's Mooney Lunch. There were 11 Mooneys and 3 other planes that brought 22 people to Flagler for lunch. The weather was great, and we had a good time eating and visiting. Some of you gus need to join us! Our next event will be this Saturday, July 10 at Saint Augustine. Future Events are all on the Second Saturday of the Month July 10, St. Augustine (SGJ) August 14, Winter Haven (GIF) September 11, Sebring (SEF) All events start at 11:30. I really appreciate it if you can e-mail me by Thursday night of the week of the event and let me know if you are going to try to make it, so I can call the restaurant on Friday with a head count. No one is obligated to come if they told me they are coming and can't make it for mechanical, weather, health or other reasons. Hope to see you soon, DaveanRuth@aol.com
  23. I have the Aero Comfort leather cover. Looks great, tail number on it, two piece above and below wiskey compass and velco taped. Makes grabbing the center post when entering and exiting a non blistering event. IIRC, cost about $40 extra, when I was buying the leather yokes.
  24. I researched this several years ago, and the consensus was they look nice (depending on one's taste), do nothing for cruise speed, and may decrease your stall speed by half a knot. Even in their heyday, Mooney stopped installing them. I passed.
