  1. In the end, it proved unnecessary. I found a pair of J model yokes down in California for about the same money, and used them.
  2. Quote: Jeev Thanks for the info guys, although my Mooney is outside it is under a shade that shields the entire aircraft from direct sunlight all day so the top of the tanks are not exposed to the heating of the sun. So if I follow the idea correctly; as long as it is not in direct sunlight (expanding/ contracting with temp) I should be good?
  3. Congrats.....the first step in a long and wondrous journey!
  4. ....yes, but those IMC GPS approaches require some creativity ;-)
  5. Quote: KSMooniac Gary, you forgot potential weight savings too if you can ditch a legacy King HSI system. Even more if you ditch the vacuum system too.
  6. Quote: DaV8or ....Like everything in aviation, seems like price creep is going on here.
  7. You will get roller tappets only from the factory.
  8. Welcome Chris! Thanks for your service to our country, and keep your eyes sharp flying those Afgan mountains. I both have some SC Mooney friends, and fly up there every 3 or 4 months myself in a J. Let us know your plans as July gets closer, and make sure mama is happy before embarking on any Mooney trips!
  9. I've been flying with a friend who has an Aspen. The air data computer, and GPSS, not to mention the very easy to read displays and back up aspects has me hoping my HSI goes in the crapper. I've been hearing claims of $10K instaleed prices. IMO, it adds to situational awareness, safety, comfort, and coolness.
  10. Quote: RJBrown Any cheap and easy suggestions?
  11. That's what I was driving at Dave....and Scott. Depending on many other factors, a crack in the case should not be a deal killer, for an otherwise very nice plane (except for all that rubber in the wings), and a seller who is willing to work with you. A talk with the guy who did the annual could be very informative.
  12. Quote: Cruiser Laws of avionics upgrades: 1. There is no way a VFR only (or IFR) pilot can justify an Aspen or a 430 for that matter. 4. You can never have too much avionics Because # 4 is so true, #1 is just plain wrong.
  13. Dave....how many hours on the engine?
  14. I recently traded my Garmin 396 for an Aera 510, and love it, even in turbulance. All the negative comments I read about it were solved by just RTFM.
  15. Only 990 # with a light Sky -Tec starter in a 1994 MSE. Per the Lycoming and Sky- Tec guys at Sun & Fun this is the newest one out, and the one you want, Parker. Spruce had the best price, and Don's guys installed it quickly. About an 8 # savings. SKY-TEC SUPERDUTY 24V/EC STARTERS A 24 volt (only) version of the #1 selling High-Torque Inline NL Model Lycoming starter delivering all the benefits of the original plus a duty cycle for even the most abusive 24 volt aircraft and environments. Recommended for 24V Navajo's w/ -D(ual mag) engines, flight schools and air carriers with abusive quick turn hot starts.
  16. CarolAnn and her Mooney are off again, this time to South America! CarolAnn took off from Florida two week ago, made two stops in the Caribbean and just emerged from two days in the Rain Forest in Brazil. To learn more about this trip and future trips please visit her blog by clicking on the link below. After just finishing the Earthrounder’s meeting in Brazilia (it’s held every two years, somewhere in the world), CarolAnn is now visiting parts of Brazil and Argentina before returning home to Florida. She’s keeping the blog updated for all interested pilots, followers and ALS supporters. CarolAnn is very appreciative of the support you have all provided to help increase the total Dash for a Cure donations to over a quarter of a million dollars! She will continue her speaking tour traveling around the U.S. again this summer. If you are interested in having CarolAnn stop by and give your group a presentation about her Dash record flight, please contact us. Click Here to Read CarolAnn's Blog!
  17. I use a pump sprayer with a 32 oz bottle of ACF 50, every year or so, around annual time.
  18. Watched you go over Longview when I was visiting Zen Master Maxwell, Jonathan. Trust you received our ATC greeting. Amazing flight....we salute you.
  19. Heck of an accomplishment and very well written story, Jonathan. Very well done!
  20. Quote: Tom_Veatch Is there a list readily available somewhere of MSCs by name and location? I hope to be on the buyer end of a transaction later on in the year and lining up a prebuy at a convenient MSC is one of the bullets.
  21. Anyone requiring a cupholder in my plane better enjoy walking.....
  22. After that much time you won't be flooded unless your giving her fuel....which you shouldn't. If you've flooded it, you can either smell it with the pass door opened, and/or see some excess fuel on the tarmac. Other options....Sky Tec high speed starter....rebuilding fuel servo and/or spider....adjusting timing.
  23. I don't think Rob was referring to the iPhone now, just an example of when it first came out. There is an iPad in my future too.....just hate being another beta tester now, and the price will drop and the features are enhanced. Fore Flight looks very interesting! Is there a handly list of othe iPad avaition apps, say from that Beechtalk forum?
