  1. Manu, there are some past threads on this website that will probably help you with this problem. What is the voltage at the field "F" terminal on the alternator when the engine is off and the master switch is on? It should be slightly less than the voltage at the battery (maybe 1.5 volts max difference.) If this is okay, you may have a loose alternator belt or a bad diode in the alternator. An automotive shop can test the diodes in the alternator for you. Do you hear any whining noise in the headset? Lee
  2. On a J model the VR is located under the instrument panel on the copilots side, behind the circuit breaker panel. Sometimes it is tywraped to the sidewall structure. Lee
  3. Hondo, living and flying in the Southeast, density altitude is not much of an issue for me. I never go to full flaps until I see the runway. I'm a big believer in checklists and I use a checklist even on the miss to ensure everything is cleaned up. That said, my missed approach procedure is pitch up, power up, flaps up, gear up, cowl flaps open, then look at the checklist. Lee
  4. Fltplan.com for me. ETA's are incredibly accurate, usually within a minute or so on a 2 hour flight. Lee
  5. I've bought one and sold one using Aerospace reports. Excellent service. They are slightly cheaper now with the AOPA affiliation, about $540. Lee
  6. I thought about that. Not an issue for me though, because I only use the lights on full bright. I assumed Spruce would have these, but didn't see them. I will go with an industrial supply site. Thanks guys, Lee
  7. Anybody got a good source for an LED replacement for GE-1818 lamps? These are the 28-volt overhead lights in my MSE. Lee
  8. Randolph wing walk compound is the material. I prefer to brush it on. Lee
  9. Lynn at MRN has done several Mooney prebuys. He is competent, honest, and can even manage to keep Bob Belville in the air! Lee
  10. I have used both the horizon tach and the ei. My current airplane has the ei, but I like the horizon unit better because of the mag status lights. Lee
  11. I like to drop the gear about a mile or so prior to the FAF and use 20" to maintain 90 kts. At the FAF fix, it's flaps 15 and 15"mp and this will maintain 90kts and stay on the GS ( the mp may be 14 or 16" depending on conditions.) I go to full flaps once the runway is in sight, or if it's really low, I just land with flaps 15. Lee
  12. Ditto, I look at the floor indicator every time on initial deployment of the the gear. My remaining two checks (base leg and short final) are with the lights only. Lee
  13. I've used Rudy aircraft instruments in Rudy Arkansas to repair gauges in my J. They are reasonable and it usually takes about week including shipping time. Lee
  14. Staples (the store, not the rusty fasteners) will have one that will work. Lee
  15. I haven't used this, but I've heard others say it works great. Not approved, but the price is right and not much lost if you have to yank it out. Lee http://www.1000bulbs.com/category/12-inch-segments-of-standard-tape-light-led/
  16. About 135 hours in the Mooney. A few hours in other planes. Lee
  17. I did the same thing, clear plastic tubing from Lowes works great. Can't remember the size I used though. Lee
  18. Same here. I vaguely remember thinking I needed to do something before going to the AME. Lee
  19. The '78 Mooney is sold, I'm now back to being a one Mooney owner - a '92 MSE. If anyone is planning to have a gear up, be advised that it impacts resale about 10%. Lee
  20. Back to the other question about the wing walk. I just removed the glued on stuff and replaced it with Randolph wing walk compound. I like the paint much better. I used a heat gun and heated while someone else pulled on the tape. It took a couple of hours to remove. I removed the old glue by using paint thinner to soften the glue and and old credit card to scape the glue. Painting on the new wing walk is easy and only takes an hour or so including the taping and prep. Lee
  21. I did my plastic repairs using fiberglass cloth and PVC glue. The PVC glue melts the cloth into the plastic and it is strong. Even pieces that are broken in half can be fixed with this process. SEM paints has a good line of paint for vinyl. Automotive paint stores carry SEM and similar products. Lee
  22. James Dobson once said "the more things you own, the more the things own you". A Mooney is all you really need. Lee
  23. CRC makes electrical contact cleaner. Lee
  24. Flyboy0681, There is a cable with a push rod that has a translucent piece of plastic glued on top. The translucent plastic rod (actually it is square, and not a rod) has a black mark painted on it. It sounds like your plastic rod feel off of the push rod. You may need to drill out a few rivets on the co-pilots side and feel around to find the plastic rod. It will be laying in there somewhere, probably on the floor. You can make the repair through the flap indicator window once you find the missing piece. Good luck and let me know if you need more info. Lee
  25. A vacuum pump is probably about $500-600. Installation will take a couple of hours, or at least it takes me two hours, because I drop the nuts hundred times before finally getting them started. A vacuum pump is a pain to change. Lee
