  1. Thanks guys. I will try contact cleaner first and then take the expensive route. Lee
  2. Yesterday and today my Garmin 530 displayed two messages, "G/S is not responding" "VLOC is not responding" I think this has been discussed before, but I may have a slight wrinkle on the problem. Each time, my King DME acted flaky too. The DME was being fed from the KX-155 at the time. Ultimately the DME returned to normal but the 530 didn't. Could this be an antenna problem, or am I looking at a $1,000 trip to Garmin? Anybody seen this before? Lee
  3. Thanks for the comment. We've done just about everything needed to bring a formerly neglected airplane back to life, including sanding the belly smooth via a gear up! The sanding was done by my partner. Lee
  4. For sale, 1978 M20J, N201BNm S/N 24-0425. Price $78,000. The airplane is being flown regularly, approximately 150 hours per year. It has been used for frequent coast-to-coast trips and has proven to be a reliable means of transportation. It is equipped for serious IFR flying. Typical of most Mooney’s of this vintage it cruises at 158 knots on 11.5 GPH at 6,000’. The airplane has 1,600 TT and approximately 600 hours SMOH. The overhaul was performed in 2009. My partner and I have owned the airplane since 2007 and we have the logbooks since new. The airplane is well equipped, Installed Equipment Garmin 430WAAS Garmin 396 with XM weather Collins Com2 & Nav2 with GS Collins Audio Panel w/MB WX-10 Stormscope Century II autopilot (heading and nav tracking) Electric trim Fuel Flow & Totalizer RCA 2600 backup electronic attitude indicator Davtron Clock Horizon Digital Tach PMA1000 intercom Other Rosen Sunvisors SkyTec lightweight starter Plane Power alternator Concorde AGM battery Retrofit Shoulder harnesses (Alpha) Landing gear overhauled, including gear motor and new biscuits (2011) Tank reseal in 2012 by Weep-no-More Paint is original but is in fairly good condition. 5. Notarpilot, Plane Power alternator and a Zef regulator is a good choice. I believe the VR15300 from Zeftronics has a standard canon plug for the J model. I suggest you call them to be sure. Lee
  6. I have a 92 M20J MSE and a 78 M20J. They have the same useful load (approx 1,025 lbs. The '92 model cruises at 160 kts ROP while the '78 cruises at 158 kts ROP. The "slow one" is for sale. Lee
  7. Thanks Bob. It will be awhile before I upgrade, need to sell the old Mooney first. I need to come over and look at your panel sometime. Maine is fun, enjoy! Lee
  8. Thanks guys. Robbie is close, so I will give him a call. Lee
  9. I'm considering an avionics upgrade and I am interested in shops others have used in the NC, SC, and GA areas. This will be either an Aspen install or a Garmin 500, plus a few other goodies. Any suggestions on shops? Lee
  10. I would love to know how your mechanic fixed it. I was in heavy rain again yesterday and the stall horn squealed again until I pulled the stall warning and gear warning breakers. Lee
  11. Squealing passenger is always a possibility when I'm flying, but it does seem to be related to the Stall switch. Lee
  12. Sure looks like the brake cylinder. Lee
  13. Thanks Bumper, I may give your suggestion a try. This is a '92 MSE and it only occurs in very heavy rain, so I suspect it is water in the stall switch. On a subsequent flight in "dry" weather the problem did not occur. Lee
  14. I remember a previous thread about this but can't find it. Last week in extremely heavy rain my stall warning started squealing and wouldn't stop. I pulled the CB to no effect and then pulled the gear CB and it stopped. Pushed the stall CB back in and it started again. It would only stop when both the stall and gear CBs were pulled. As soon as I landed, the squealing stopped and hasn't reoccurred. Anybody else experience this? Lee
  15. The main airport, PHL is easy too and more convenient. They are very accomodating for GA, though expensive. I believe parking was $50 per night when I was there. They will take you to the train station and it is a quick ride into town. I have flown into PHL several times in my J with no issues. Lee
  16. Auto paint suppliers will match and mix a quart of "vinyl" paint for you. I repaired my ABS pieces using fiberglass cloth and PVC glue. The PVC glue will melt the fiberglass into the ABS making it very strong. R/C hobby fiberglass is best, but auto repair fiberglass will work fine. This is a fairly easy project and you will be pleased with the results. Lee
  17. I have been flying with both XM and ADSB weather for a few months and XM weather is definitely better, but I'm comfortable enough with the ADSB weather to drop the $35 per month XM cost. I also have a Stormscope, which I believe is needed to get a good view of the weather in the Southeast. Lee
  18. AOPA will take you off their "junk email" list if you ask. May have to be persistent. I rarely receive any of their junk. Lee
  19. I recommend the plywood box too. Lee
  20. Have they moved? Spruce was in Peachtree City, kFFC. Spruce is one mile from the airport and they will pick you up. Lee
  21. Bob Bramble at Aerolabs Aviation just repaired mine. Excellent to work with and a quick turn around. It sounds like it is in the KI-525, but probably should send the gyro too. Lee
  22. To add to Bnicolette's response,it may take several "blades" before it starts, but don't stop cranking (don't exceed the start crank time though). Lee
  23. A 10-32 truss head machine screw with a locknut will work fine too. (Locknut on the inside of course.) Lee
  24. They are small black switches, about 1" long, right on the worm gear. You should be able to follow the wires from the flap motor to the switches. Sorry, I don't have a photo. Lee
