  1. Sounds like the white with green stripe KAL one.
  2. @Sue Bon The RG-142 is fine.
  3. I’ve flipped through the Spruce catalog but didn’t see any of the black panel screws with the black plastic washers. A googling session also turned up nothing. Does anyone have a link to any? Thanks
  4. That’s not complete until there are some bottle jacks or floor jacks used.
  5. I’ll be there with the the new hangar queen, if it’s not AOG that week.
  6. Hopefully they updated the antenna cable with a modern dual-shield like RG-400 instead of using the old RG-58 that is who knows how old.
  7. The POH for my ‘88 had 162 for operating speed but the modified POH for the GW increase walked that back so the extension speed is the same as the operating speed. I guess somebody learned something new.
  8. I was showing 60% power, so as far as I am aware, the red box had all but disappeared. Looks like a great setting for loitering and sight seeing as long as it’s warm enough to enable lead scavenging.
  9. Yesterday I rescued the plane from its AOG state after the left mag, presumably the condenser, went dead during a 30 minute flight. Thank goodness we were within Uber range of home. Yesterday was also the first time I tried to run the engine LOP. Even without GAMI injectors, I was very surprised how far LOP I could get it to run. Since it was only a very short flight, I had only climbed to 4,500’, but the engine ran fine, down into the 7’s before any roughness was detected. What got my attention though, were the CHT’s. I was bouncing right around about 300°. I started thinking about lead scavenging issues, so I richened things up to get some more heat in the heads and continued on towards home. This got me thinking: How far LOP is too far LOP and how cold is too cold for CHT temps?
  10. I’ve bought some of the Smoke Gila film but am concerned about the amount of distortion I see looking through it just peeling the backing down. Does it clear up once installed, or remain that way? I’m thinking rear seat passengers might object to a less than clear view. if it doesn’t clear up, I’ll swap out the smoke for Black and just use it as temporary sun shields.
  11. I’m actually thinking Serial #1 to GTX345 for traffic, Serial #2 to GNC255 for remote freq control and Bluetooth to G3X for flight plan transfers. Any reason that wouldn’t work? I’d hate to go through the wiring shenanigans only to find out something isn’t possible.
  12. Yeah, those were the RJ-11 days, either 1 or 2 pairs. Since I've heard back from Garmin, it really looks like amperage limited by USB-a. which was my temporary solution anyway, so I guess that project just got moved up in priority.
  13. According to Garmin, it’s looking like a low amperage condition that it is responding to. Evidently, it’s a bit power hungry.
  14. No, neither. The plane has a separate dual USB-A plug wired with only two wires, so no way it’s picking up any feed on any of the other pins. In both my truc and my mom’s car in Florida on Wednesday, it was plugged into a cigarette plug charging adapter, so only two wires there as well. But interestingly, when I use the same cable at home and plug it into a Leviton USB outlet, it works fine. I haven’t looked for one, but maybe there is a “power only” cable that might prevent it from being fooled. I think my best option will be to go ahead and get it wired in permanently ASAP and abandon the need for the USB cable.
  15. I’m using the cable that came with the unit and I’ll add that the same cable works fine when plugged into a usb outlet in the house. Evidently it’s picking up a signal that it’s attached to a computer when it’s plugged into the plane or several cars, all with different charging adapters in cigarette lighters.
  16. Yesterday we plugged the Aera 760 into the plane usb plug ant the screen instantly darkened and then asked about using Mass Storage Mode. Regardless of everything I tried, I couldn’t raise the Day Backlight, I could not change the 30% backlight setting. When plugged into a car USB, I also got the same behavior but I don’t get this in the house. Does anyone know how to disable the Mass Storage Mode? @donkaye?
  17. I used to fly my Cherokee 140 from Stuart to Walker’s Cay regularly in the late 80’s before we had all these fancy engine monitors and such. Once you got over “over water rough, it’s just like any other 1 hour flight. Now, I was young, dumb and half broke, so that meant no life raft, just PFDs from the boat. I always had a great time and there’s nothing like that clear Bahamian water. Do it and have a great time!
  18. That’s a horrible tease.
  19. Hawk is where you want to go. I’m in the hangars right behind the fuel farm at Calhoun. Next time you’re in for fuel, come by and visit if the doors are open, #202.
  20. In full disclosure, I only flew with mine once before the regulator problem and that is when I figured out having “Master Switch - ON” in an electronic check list wouldn’t work. Since then, I redid most everything and put in the lists for different flight phases. Hopefully soon, I’ll fly with them and remove the stuff that isn’t helpful. Mine are overly detailed because I’m trying to force my self back into the checklist habit. To answer your question, yes. On the G3X, the checklist is on the MFD so I just use the inner knob to “check” each item and it auto advances to the next item.
  21. On the G3X, you can use the inner button to "check" each item on the list by pushing it in, instead of touching the screen. This is nice for longer checklists that more than fill the page as it automatically scrolls down one line at a time. Does the GTN do that as well, or is it only by touch. I tried my checklist, which is long, on the GTN750, but stopped when I got to the bottom of the page and had to change pages manually. I stopped there and used it on the G3X, but with a passenger, getting them involved with checklists is a great way to keep them interested. Maybe I need to work with it more.
  22. I've uploaded the file into the Avionics Downloads section on MS. chklist.ace Checklist File
  23. Yeah, $7.20 is pricey.
  24. Good video but you said there’s no fuel at Gwinnett? Is that no fuel, or no reasonably priced fuel?
