  1. I’m looking at them too and look forward to your review.
  2. I don’t think I understand. No modification necessary to the spring. It just snakes over the curved end.
  3. All done. 0.055 piano wire and springs.
  4. Now that Grainger is back online, I think this one will work. Grainger Baffle Spring This, and some 0.55” music wire and I’ll be all set.
  5. Lasar is Out of Stock and I need one. I can make the keeper wire but need a spring. Does anyone have a line for a comparable spring? 1.75” overall length 0.50”OD 0.38”ID 0.053” music wire 15#/IN spring constant. McMaster Carr doesn’t have anything and Grainger’s website has crashed since this morning and now says down for maintenance.
  6. Does anyone know where I can get the coil Spring for BAFFLE RETAINER SPRING - 600372-501 Lasar is out but I can twist up the wire holder if I can find a spring.
  7. That will be perfect!
  8. I’ve got some bolts on order with them but I’m AOG at the moment. Hopefully they’ll get here Monday.
  9. That’s fantastic! So when I need something, I can have you pick it up for me and zip it right out to me. I knew MooneySpace wouldn’t let me down. Problem solved!
  10. New to me plane and now it’s time to correct a few little problems like someone’s creative cowl flap repair. I’m now searching for an AN3-7a bolt which seems to be rather rare in local bolt drawers and sweepings collections. Is Aircraft Spruce the best place for onsie, twosie, stuff? Best for me is consistent, quick and reliable with acceptable prices. Since I’m new to the airport, I don’t want to become the “do you have one of these?” guy. Pictures for clarity. Fixed nut plate is OEM. Sliding nut plate makes for a very loose and floppy cowl flap hinge.
  11. Recently I watched a YT video by Rmag in his 205 on SmartGlide and at inception, there were no airports within range. As the glide progressed, an airport, in the direction of glide, fell within the glide range. Smart Glide never picked up that there was now an airport within range. IIRC, the pilot reinitialized Smart Glide and it picked up that airport. In that experiment, selection was a one and done calculation. Smart Glide Demo by RMag look at about 5:30 into the video.
  12. I started with the Pilot Guide but without knowing which information travels on which channel, and other unknowns, it’s not very clear. I’ve got a lot to learn. But hey, all added up, I think I have seventeen possible timers!
  13. So here’s a question. Will I lose any functionality over what you have if I BT to the GTX-345 and run the RS-232 to the GTN? Another option is to BT to the G3X instead of the GTX. I’ll have to claim ignorance regarding knowing what information is being delivered on the different protocols and if there are any overlaps.
  14. I’m guessing I’ll use BT to the GTX-345 to get traffic and weather. Or, could that come from through the cable from the GTN? Too many options makes this confusing.
  15. Yeah, I read that over on the Vans forum. Is my battery there?
  16. For Christmas my wife got me an Aera 760 without knowing what, if any, plane we would end up owning. Now that ownership has turned into a reality, and the plane has a very well equipped Garmin panel, I’m stewing over how best to cable/BT the Aera into the other components to get the best out of it. If you’ve got an Aera portable, how have you connected it to get the most out of its capabilities?
  17. You’ll be fine. No need to worry.
  18. Back to good old elbow grease, eh? That’s definitely the easiest method when not in a nicely equipped hangar. Once I get possession of it, I’ll take a whack at it and see how it goes. Hopefully it won’t be that bad.
  19. I did my best to get pictures of the worst places which of course makes things look worse than they really are. Most of the paint is nice and shiny, punctuated by spots of corrosion.
  20. That was exactly my plan until I was told by a paint shop, very well respected on MS, that they use brass coated wire wheels for this. I agree that it is an effective means of getting rid of it, but steel on aluminum is a non starter for me. I’ll quickly realize if this is the wrong path and will then reevaluate my options. As they say, this isn’t my first rodeo as I did a total strip and repaint of my ‘65 Cherokee back in 1990. My take away from that endeavor was never spray Imron in a row hangar unless all other aircraft have been moved. When I get into this, I’ll gladly offer up my results, good or bad. Maybe that will be helpful for others that may find themselves in a similar situation.
  21. Thank you. I appreciate the input. Is the same true for soda blasting, since it’s a much softer media than glass beads? I’ve got plenty of different scotch Brite Roloc discs in different grits. Is there one grit/color better suited than others?
  22. My plan was to buy a “right now” plane and wait until prices dropped to find my forever plane at a bargain price. Then I saw a FB post and that plan went out the window pretty quickly. On Monday I’m flying myself and my Mooney CFI up to Gaithersburg to pick up my first Mooney which could very well turn out to be my forever Mooney. Who knows, if prices crash like some predict/hope for, it will be bad enough that moving up to an Ovation at 50 cents on the dollar that I won’t feel the sting of having overpaid buying now. Somehow I don’t think we’re going to see a bloodbath like that.
  23. Not to derail this thread creep, but based on recent VRef data for Q1 2023, prices have dropped again. Base price for 1988 J dropped over $10K. I only wish I had taken a snapshot before they did their update to get a more comprehensive comparison.
  24. Definitely need to see some comparison photos of a hybrid plane with one wingtip LED and one wingtip halogen. Photos need to be from both pilot and ramp bystander prospectives, day and night.
  25. Based on what I’ve heard from the local rumor mill, this happened near me. It’s safe to say you only need to be concerned about shops under the ATL Bravo, NW of Hartsfield.
