  1. The previous owner was gracious enough to leave a case of oil and 2 Champion filters in the plane when he sold it to me. I’ve found a good source for oil and have plenty on hand now but I’ll soon need filters. AirpowerInc seems to have the best price on Tempest filters at $27+ while Champions seem to run about $8 more. I’m currently using Champion, and am very happy with them, but the price on the Tempest is attractive. Any thoughts on product and/or source?
  2. Turbo has enjoyed meeting Ms. Hubcap.
  3. Bumping this thread back up. I’d like to get a scope and agree the rigid scope (VA-400] would be easiest to use for cylinders, but the semi-rigid one (VA-800) opens up other possibilities that won’t work for the rigid unit. Is the semi-rigid scope that much more difficult to control in a cylinder, to make it a poor choice? Could you zip tie it to a piece of TIG rod, or other suitable stiffener, to make it easier for cylinder work?
  4. Sounds like it will be a great panel. As an alternative to the Air Gizmo dock, MyGoFlight makes a panel mount and adaptor to connects to the Garmin cradle. That gives you options for orientation and allows co-pilot their own panel if desired.
  5. I’m hoping to meet as many MSers in Lexington as I can. Heres a picture of my bird to help find me at KLEX. With 22 Mooneys inbound, it will be a great looking ramp for sure. Chuck
  6. I’m very much looking forward to this weekend and hope to meet some of you fine MS folk as well. Picture added for recognition help Chuck
  7. Loading up at Wilson Air Center at KCHA after dining with friends, we were treated to a Strawberry Moon sitting atop the control tower.
  8. No way possible to loose that much oil into the cowl and not have it all over the belly.
  9. For a data point, 1988 J 205 still had ram air and single light in cowl. I can confirm 1990 J had lights in wings.
  10. For my filiform corrosion, after initial paint removal, I use scotchbrite dipped in Alumaprep 33. It helps the SB cut better and preps the aluminum at the same time. Rinse, Alodine and then paint as desired. I’m headed to paint not too far in the future, so this is just stop gap to get the corrosion under control until then.
  11. Mine showed up yesterday. Looking forward to trying it.
  12. Good luck today.
  13. For years, I’ve been a fan of Mequiar’s Quick Detail spray but I recently tried another product, Lucas Slick Mist Speed Wax, and I like it better. It does a great job, goes on easy, comes off easy and really is a pleasure to use on leading edges covered in bug splat. What is your favorite wipe down product?
  14. (Video) What’s the Best Metal Polish? Here’s a very thorough, and unbiased, test of 8 different metal polishes on several different metal types. Spoiler: CarPro MetalliCut and California Purple come out on top.
  15. Now, if they could come up with a cleaner way to remove the suction screen, I’d go for that.
  16. I’ll call the VCC in the morning. My fear would be getting in and then hitting capacity and our ex-fil ride not being able to get us out. It’s almost worth flying down, just for the recon opportunity.
  17. Be careful adding weight to the elevator and rudder as it will affect the balance. I have heard stories of inability to balance an elevator after a multi-color paint scheme due to the weight of the additional layers.
  18. Uh oh. I need to learn more about this mouse milk stuff. I assumed I needed a girl mouse. Yuck!
  19. After being closed to civilians for the last 3 1/2 years, Pensacola NAS is opening back up for civilians tomorrow. I got the wild idea to fly down to 82J, jump in an Uber, go to the National Aviation Museum and watch a practice session, but with the West Gate 3 miles from the museum, I don’t think the Uber idea will work. Are Uber or Lyft drivers allowed on base for pick ups? Has anyone here figured out a way to pull this off smoothly?
  20. I guess it’s time to find a cooperative mouse.
  21. Does that apply to all models, or just the K’s?
  22. For me, it would be getting my big fingers around the tiny little…never mind.
  23. My parity is set at 2400. Is it correct to say as far as the plane’s logs are concerned, the only time that matters is tach time? This means my plane will age more slowly that one using hobbs time.
  24. Is there any special size/length helicoil needed for repairing hubcap threads in the magnesium wheels? Will 8-32x0.328” work?
