  1. I can’t believe I didn’t post this from our shuttle ride from the hotel to the airport. It’s easy to see who’s navigating for Paul Maxwell and keeping the passengers in line.
  2. I wasn’t even aware it was a guided tour. That’s fantastic! Now my guests won’t have to listen to me blabbering on all day.
  3. I have a great IA that I work with and he knows my abilities and limitations. He suggested I go to the FSDO and apply for certification. I have ZERO formal training, just 50+ years of working on all of my own stuff from bicycles to dump trucks and just about everything in between. Is there any realistic chance that something like this would have any chance of being successful, or even just helpful, for a DIY wrench? Chuck
  4. Thanks for the tips. I last did the museum in ‘90 or ‘91 when it was just two buildings. I was working at Pratt & Whitney and we were testing our low pressure compressor (LPC) rig for the F-35 in the Wright Pat test cell on the old base. We had lots of down time between tests, so I got to do the museum pretty thoroughly. This was the time frame when they took the SR-71’s out of service and one of them wound up at WPAFB. One of my colleagues was there to watch it fly in but at least when I was back the next week, it was still sitting on the end of the runway. Back then, they only had the YF-12 in the back building. I’m really looking forward to seeing what they’ve added.
  5. Next month, we’re flying up to Dayton for the air show and then the museum. I haven’t been to Dayton in over 30 years and I understand it has shrunk a good bit since then. Can anyone recommend the better places in town we might want to look for lodging, restaurants and entertainment? Thanks, Chuck
  6. Frank Crawford made this great poster and showcased it at MooneyMax. He also turned it into a banner and gave three of those away as door prizes at the banquet Saturday night. I was very happy to be one of the lucky winners of this great piece. Frank will be checking with the powers that be regarding creating the posters to sell. P.S. That’s not me in the picture. This is just the best picture of the poster I could find. Chuck
  7. JK, I figured out you were PP pretty early on. It was great talking with you and glad you made it home safely. No, we weren’t in the flight levels, but at 7,500’, with my VFR brethren. It was a nice tailwind too.
  8. Some would call that the WIFE alarm.
  9. The main function, and value, of the LHS is close proximity AGL alerting, not gear alarm. The gear alert is just icing.
  10. Agreed. Much like the difference between a private pilot and commercial pilot. I don’t desire to learn how to work on jet hot sections or recover rag planes. I just want to be able to be able to replace an ignition harness or oil cooler, you know, the really hard and tricky stuff that us lay people can’t understand how to do.
  11. I really enjoyed chatting with you. I looked for you here, but couldn’t find @tattoo. Now I know why. Chuck
  12. There was a 10 minute recorded video he did from overseas. First priority is to become sustainable through parts production both Mooney and contract. He intimated that there is a deal that is about to close that will help greatly with the sustainability issue, no details given. They’re still struggling with third party part procurement and they are looking for ways to solve that. That was about it in a nutshell.
  13. Returned home to Georgia yesterday from my first MooneyMax. Here are some of my thoughts. First off, I’m in total amazement of Jan Maxwell for putting this event together. It’s a Herculean task for sure and if anything went sideways, I never saw it. Secondly, all of the presenters did a great job. Of course everyone has different areas of interest so some were more interesting to me than others, but overall quality was very good. Weather…. Geez, did it get hot. I spent a fair amount of time outside being walked around the hotel grounds by Turbo, and I’m very thankful I don’t have to live in that heat and humidity. The best part of the entire event was getting to meet so many members of the Mooney family. And don’t kid yourself, it is a family. Having Frank and Misty Crawford there from Mooney was really great and I was one of the lucky ones to win Frank’s custom Mooney collage. It will definitely be getting hung up in the hangar. Getting to meet so many other mooniacs and MooneySpace members was great. I had met @hubcap previously at the Lexington PPP earlier this month but I finally got to meet @Pinecone and Don Muncy too. I’m sure I met other MS members, but without MS badging, it’s impossible to know. Maybe we need a secret handshake. It was a great event and I’m sure we’ll be back again.
  14. With that serial number, it’s a 205, not a 201.
  15. I don’t believe so. The concern is binding caused by over extending. If done properly, meaning stopping at the correct point, it should be fine.
  16. This topic was just discussed with Don Maxwell during a Mooney panel discussion. Don’s recommendation is to test emergency extension on jacks and never in flight. His reasoning is because it is a delicate mechanism, designed for use in emergencies, it is not designed for lots of use. Don’t take a chance of binding it extended because it can only be unbound on the ground. It’s just not worth the risk. And as was stated above, stop as soon as the lights illuminate, not when resistance is felt.
  17. Gary Reeves’ presentation is great information.
  18. Thanks @Parker_Woodruff. Found a room at Comfort Suites .5 miles away. Looking forward to meeting you.
  19. MooneyMax.com
  20. Just arrived at KGGG and still no rooms at Hilton Garden Inn for tonight. Turbo doesn’t care about a room, he just wanted to be done with the trip.
  21. Not yet. I was told to try Tyler. Hoping more vacate tomorrow.
  22. I landed at KRYY at night to drop off my CFII and got a $10 bill in the mail.
  23. Power is being restored in the area so rooms should be opening up as residents are able to return to their homes. Our reservation is for Thursday but since weather won’t be improving in Georgia Wednesday, we’re going to attempt getting out early. We’ll deal with the room situation when we get there. Hopefully it’s a good gamble.
  24. Yeah, we’re in NW Georgia and the forecast out of here to the west isn’t great for departing tomorrow.
